My cat is lethargic and not eating after vet shots. Side effect?

I think your vet's response was the correct one. All antibiotics carry a risk of intestinal upset and vaccines can certainly make pets feel "off". If he's not feeling better tomorrow, he needs to go back in to the vet.

No, this isn't normal behavior. While you can see a decrease in appetite and some lethargy, it's an unusual reaction to have a cat refusing to eat and drink, as well as not want to move. I would try to tempt her to eat by offering her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) or soaking her food in tuna juice. If she still refuses to eat, then I would have her seen by a vet.

Poor Jasper! The timing of his signs certainly correlate with his vaccine. Not eating and lethargy (as well as vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling and hives) can be signs of a vaccine reaction. Vaccine reactions are uncommon, but do happen. If Jasper still isn't eating by later today, I would give your vet a call to have him rechecked. Some vaccine reactions require steroids and/or antihistamines for treatment.

Hello. I am sorry Simba is not feeling well. It is possible that Simba was incubating, or had a low-grade infection. The allergy shot was actually a steroid injection that lowers the ability of the immune system to respond to an infection, essentially making the infection worse. So, this is not a behavior change, Simba just is under the weather. Hopefully, the antibiotics will keep things from getting worse, but if Simba does not pick up in a couple of days, please call your veterinarian. He may need a change in antibiotics, or be placed on an antiviral medication. As long as he is eating a little each day, he will be OK, but if he refuses all food, have him seen as soon as possible. I am guessing the injection given was Cerenia. Side effects are uncommon with the use of this medication, but the most commonly noted side effects were: drooling, drowsiness, diarrhea, and appetite loss. I would be worried and I think he needs to get back to the vet. Were any x-rays or blood testing done? If not, that needs to be done to figure out what is going on. This sounds like it could be something more serious going on. If it was just a simple upset stomach he should be feeling MUCH better after that injection and not sleeping for 10 hours. I would be worried.

Lethargy can be a side effect of an anti-nausea injection such as Cerenia, so that could be why Sunshine is just sleeping. I would monitor her for now, and see if she will eat when she wakes up. I think you are right to be concerned. Something is making her feel rather bad right now and making her eat less. She is likely nauseous, which can happen in many different disease processes. Since she is on a raw food diet, I would be suspicious of an infection affecting the stomach or intestines. Raw food has been linked to a few different bacteria and parasites that can cause gastrointestinal infections, which is a big reason I don't reccomend feeding it. If the stool is loose or more frequently, then she would need to be tested for some of these diseases. Other causes can be pancreatitis, hepatitis, kidney disease and gall bladder disease. Routine blood tests can help to identify these potential causes. I think the pain response in the leg is unrelated, but worth exploring also. Overall, I reccomend scheduling a recheck exam with your vet. They will likely come to a similar conclusion and can better evaluate Sansa for any of these conditions.
