Why is my cat lethargic, not eating, and struggling to swallow?

If smudge is not eating or drinking I strongly recommend a visit to the veterinarian. He may have an upper respiratory infection or virus, which can cause fever, lethargy and decrease in eating. Depending on what the veterinarian fines smudge may need antibiotics or antiviral medication or other treatment to get him eating and drinking again. Good luck and I hope he's feeling better soon.

Poor Willow! It does sound like she isn't feeling well. It would be best to bring her to a vet ASAP to check for issues such as a foreign body from eating any kitty litter, GI upset, illnesses, etc that could be causing the symptoms you are seeing, especially if this has been ongoing for more than a day.

It sounds as Mittens is suffering from a severe gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. you must take her to the vet urgently, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Given that she is eating and drinking as normal, I would monitor her for now. If she is still lethargic in another 24-48 hours, I would have her seen by a vet. Should she stop eating or drink, or develops other signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, I would have her seen by a vet right away.

Sometimes a viral upper respiratory infection can affect the back of the throat and cause swelling that could affect your cat’s ability to meow. Difficulty swallowing can also occur when something is lodged in the esophagus or if there is a problem with a tooth. I’m glad Lily ate some chicken, but if her normal appetite does not return soon I’d recommend seeing your vet for an examination.

Poor Missy! She could have a dental problem causing her symptoms, such as a tooth root abscess, broken tooth, or severe periodontal disease. There could also be a growth or foreign body in her mouth. Shaking the head frequently can also be a sign of an ear infection, while licking the mouth as well as not eating and drinking can be a sign of nausea . She is in pain from this, and she is showing this to by shaking her head frequently, licking her mouth, not eating, and not drinking.
