My cat has a large red thing stuck for days. Should I pull it?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 5 lbs

thick large dark red 3 in around about 4 inches long thing coming out of her private area. I thought she was pregnant a few months ago but she didn't gain weight. I thought maybe its a miscarriage coming out. but its been stuck in her for three days straight. Should I pull it out? Its a barn cat somebody left it here about two years ago and we are trying to take care of her. she seems healthy and fine. It just wont come out

No, do not attempt to pull it out. It could be a mass or a vaginal prolapse. Either condition needs to be addressed by your veterinarian. If she allows, get her into a carrier and take her to your veterinarian or the nearest veterinary ER. Left untreated, she is at risk of serious infection.

    Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I think you have a very serious problem with Pickles. It sounds like she has prolapsed her cervix/uterus. This is an emergency as the longer the tissue is exposed to the air, the more likely it will begin to necrose & die. She really needs veterinary care now. The prolapse may still be able to be reduced, but she needs to be spayed to prevent this from happening again. I hope you can address this ASAP. Thank you.

Oh my. That looks like her uterus is trying to prolapse (come out). YOu need to take her to your local vet right away to have her examined and get this treated for. The vet will likely do a thorough exam with her mildly sedated and may have to push this back in an suture her closed. I would also consider getting her spayed soon to help prevent this from being a constant issue, if she isn't already. Best of luck to you and Keti! Keep watching her, but do not disturb her. If she does not produce another kitten in about an hour and the red bubble is still there and looks thick, like fleshy tissue, you need to take her and her babies to the vet as she may have a uterine prolapse, which can cause her to die, if it is not reduced.

My cat has plastic coming out of her rear. Should I pull it?
Definitely do not pull the plastic out. It could be anchored "further up" and you may do significant damage to her gastrointestinal tract by pulling on it. Monitor her closely over the next day or so for lethargy, vomiting, and decreased or absent appetite, and check the litterbox to see that she eventually does poop it out. If you don't see the plastic, or any of those signs develop, take her in to your veterinarian.

This is likely the amniotic sac or a placenta. If Iris has been having strong contractions without producing a kitten, she needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Never pull on anything that is hanging out of her since you don't know exactly what it is. Occasionally they can prolapse part of their uterus and if you pull on it you will make it drastically worse. My cat's rectum is protruding. What can I do if I can't afford a vet?
If your cat has a prolapsed rectum it needs to be reinserted. If you do this at home it will likely come right back out. Typically these need to be reinserted under anesthesia and a purse string suture placed around the rectum to keep it in. I wish there was more you could do at home but unfortunately this is one of those things that needs to be done by a vet. Good luck.
