Why is my cat's butt irritated, licking, and green poop after deworming?

Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There are many causes to diarrhea with a red perhaps inflamed anus. Parasites could be the cause or a bacterial or viral infection. I would take your kitten to your veterinarian soon for a fecal test where they will test his stool for parasites and bacteria and/or certain viruses that could be causing the diarrhea. They may Rx a medication to your kitten depending on what the veterinarian discovers on the fecal test. Best of luck! I hope this has helped.

She could be scooting for several reasons. If she has a high worm burden then she may be passing them in her stool as they die off. Her anal gland could be irritating her (not common in such a young kitten), she could have pooo stuck to her rear end, or it could be itchy due to a scrape or injury. If externally it looks normal then I would wait and see if she is still scooting tomorrow. Best of luck and have fun with your new kitten!

Depending on what was used to deworm Vickie it's still possible that she could have parasites like tapeworms. Vickie might also have an anal gland issue or allergies. If this continues I'd recommend having your vet examine Vickie.

Diarrhea is a very non-specific signs so I'm afraid the possibilities are numerous. Intestinal worms, inflammatory bowel disease, food sensitivity, allergic reaction, colitis from stress, diet charge or indiscretion (stealing people food, etc), toxin, or others are all on the list. For tonight, just gently clean her up with a baby wipe or tissue. You can apply a little lanolin or olive oil to soothe the rump. A little ice pack (wrapped in a paper towel or thin kitchen towel) pressed to the anus can help with the pain and inflammation as well. Best of luck to you and Luna!

Yes, the redness could be due to irritation, and from your picture (thank you for providing one!) it doesn't look excessively red . It looks like normal mucosa to me (the membrane that lines the anal cavity), and I would not be concerned about it :-)

I suggest you try giving him some Miralax powder - 1/4 teaspoon mixed with a tiny bit of canned cat food twice a day to see if it helps. That's definitely abnormal behavior. I would be worried about his anal glands from that description. It's possible that he had an anal glands problem at one point and developmented a scooting habit that stuck. Another possibility is that he is itchy - this can be caused by food or environmental allergies. I would recommend asking your vet if they thought a hypoallergenic diet (for allergies) or a high fever diet (like royal canin fiber response, for anal glands) would be most appropriate for him and go from there.
