My cat is injured and I can't find a vet. What first aid can I give?

I am Majid Hussain from Pakistan. My pet (male cat) has been injured, and I don't know how I give him medical treatment because here no any Doctor of pets. Please help me. He is very sensitive animal. Kindly help me please I am very upset...please Tell me medicines and usage.

Oh no, poor Naqusha! Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at PetCoach to prescribe any drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your cat. I would call around to find the closest vet in your country to take him into as he really does need veterinary treatment for it. You can gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and I would put a bandage over it to keep it clean and dry. Do not allow Naqsha to go outside if he's allowed outside, and I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at it. I can give you a link on how to make one at home. I am very concerned that this could get infected, and he likely needs antibiotics to treat it but you need to see a vet to get them. Ask friends and family as well if they know of any vets in the area. I hope he ends up ok!

My cat was scratched in a fight. What to do if no vet is open?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is difficult to know the most appropriate course of action without knowing the extent of his injuries. However, the best thing you can do is to keep him as quiet as possible for now until you can have him evaluated by a veterinarian. He likely has trauma in multiple places which is why he is so responsive to the touch. Often times after fights they have injuries beyond what you can see from the outside. They would be able to check the extent of the injuries and recommend the best course of action but for now, I recommend that you rest him as much as possible and keep an eye on him to make sure he is ok. My cat has an open wound. How can I prevent infection at home?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Stormy! I would shave the fur away from the wound then clean it well with water and a mild soap (avoid hydrogen peroxide). Then apply triple antibiotic ointment twice daily. The most important thing is to have Stormy wear and E-collar to prevent licking and keep him indoors. He should see a Vet as soon as possible to at a minimum get antibiotics but to also see if surgery is required to close the wound. I would call your local SPCA to see if they offer a low cost Veterinary clinic. I hope this helps and I wish Stormy a speedy recovery!

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Until your nearest veterinarian opens, I recommend keeping Psycho as relaxed and quiet as possible. He's likely had a traumatic several weeks! Put him in a dark quiet room with his food, water, and litterbox, and minimize his stress. However, he should be seen by the vet as soon as possible - I'm concerned he may be fighting an abscess (infection) and may require antibiotics to get better. Hope this helps!

Cat came home with bleeding cut. Can I use antiseptic wipes? Vet closed.

I am so sorry Cotton got hurt. I would recommend bringing Cotton to an emergency veterinarian if there is one in your area. The wound needs to be clipped and cleaned out. It also may also need to be sutured. The veterinarian can also give Cotton pain medication and antibiotics. I would recommend getting an elizabethan collar so that Cotton cannot lick at the wound. The antiseptic wipes may sting so just some saline to clean it for now until you can get Cotton to a veterinarian. If you cannot go tonight I would recommend first thing in the morning. What to do for my cat's seeping wound when vet is closed?

Please trim the fur so you can keep an eye on the wound and so the fur doesn't get stuck in it. Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I can't tell from the photo but if there is dirt in it you can flush the area with warm water. I wouldn't put anything topical on it if Truffles is licking the area. Using a restraint collar will stop the licking and then you could apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it, not deep into the wound. Keeping the area open and draining for a few days will prevent an abscess, a puss pocket under the skin. If Truffles stops eating or the area is very red and painful then he will need a veterinary exam and antibiotics. These wounds are not usually sutured as that traps in the infection.
