My cat has a bump and rash at injection site. Should I worry?

It sounds like Coco is having a local vaccine reaction. You should contact your vet and see if they want to examine him or if they would be able to prescribe medications, and if they agree it’s a vaccine reaction they might recommend medication prior to vaccines in the future. I doubt it’s related to the trouble giving the vaccine - it’s pretty common for the needle to slip out when giving injections to wiggly dogs and cats.

Normally, there will be a small bump where a vaccination is given and this can persist for several weeks to months. If it persists for longer than 3 months and / or continues to grow in size, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Simba so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendation can be made. Sometimes, vaccines can cause cancerous tumors to grow in the area where the vaccine was administered. This is less common now, but still a risk. I hope this helps! Hi, sorry to hear Keanu is having problem. This very well could be a type of vaccine reaction. I would monitor the site to see if it gets better or if a lump appears. If a lump appears, he should be taken back to the vet as this is serious. It could be an infection also, which may resolve on it's own or may need antibiotics. I hope he gets better!

It does not look like post-injection reaction. I would rather suspect an insect bite, reaction to a tick, cat bite (if Ori goes out at all) or self-inflicted small wound from scratching the area. Please, keep an eye on it, small skin wounds often heal rapidly without treatment. If there is any discharge from the wound you can use 4% chlorhexidine skin solution to clean it. If it gets bigger or starts bothering Ori, take her to your local vets for a check.

I'm so sorry that Noushmc isn't feeling well. Pain at the injection site and mild lethargy are very common with vaccinations and considered normal since the vaccination is stimulating the immune system. It usually lasts 1-2 days and will resolve on its own. If Nouschmc is not eating, is vomiting or it lasts more than 2 days, I would contact your veterinarian. Good luck! Depending on where the vaccinations were placed, this could be a vaccine reaction or an abscess from a cat bite. Seeing the vet is a good idea. The vet will clean up the area and determine what is going on, and may prescribe anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics.

Soft masses that are part of the skin can be either abscesses (pockets of infection), small bits of swelling from vaccine injections (these can last a few months sometimes), fatty masses, and less commonly in a 4 month old kitten, cancers. I would monitor it, if Bean is painful or if it is growing or changing get it looked at right away, otherwise just monitor for now and have it assessed by your vet next time you are in.
