My cat has IBS but still vomits daily. How can I prevent it?

Drooling is a common symptom of nausea and since your cat just vomited this is probably why she i drooling so much. With IBS it is common to have occasional flare ups like this, especially if your cat ate something she should not have. She may do on after fasting for 12-24 hours or you may need to call your veterinarian and ask about some additional nausea medication, like Cerenia. I hope this helps. It is not normal for a cat to vomit that frequently, so your cat may have inflammatory bowel disease or another type of chronic gastrointestinal disease. Since it has been going on for so, a diet change may not be enough at this point. The ideal situation would be to have your veterinarian do some testing to determine what is causing the vomiting. Since she is still having some intermittent vomiting episodes, there are some other things that you could consider trying. First, a daily probiotic like Forti-Flora can be very helpful for some cats with chronic vomiting problems - this is very safe and does not have any risks or side effects, so it's a good option to try first. If this doesn't help, I would recommend talking to your vet about whether prescription medication may be helpful for Darcy. Anti-nausea medications like Cerenia, and oral steroids like prednisone are both potentially good options that can be given daily if needed to help prevent vomiting episodes.

I'm sorry to hear that Mercedes is sick. If IBD or GI lymphoma is suspected the next steps may be ultrasound or even biopsy. Biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis of IBD. However, I will frequently treat if it is strongly suspected on ultrasound. If IBD is confirmed it's worth doing a trial of a prescription GI diet. Although a/d is a good recovery diet it is probably not the best one to use as a maintenance diet if IBD is suspected. It would also be worth giving your veterinarian a call to see if they can give a Cerenia injection. This will help to resolve the vomiting and can be continued if necessary. Vitamin B12 injections can also be helpful when a cat is experiencing GI distress and will be needed if IBD is confirmed. Hello, thank your question about Kianti. Based on the symptoms and the low B12 that you report I would be concerned that Kianti could have underlying GI disease. If he hasn't had one already I would recommend pursuing an abdominal ultrasound so that the characteristics of his GI tract can be evaluated. Inflammatory bowel disease is a not uncommon condition in cats that can lead to chronic vomiting. This is usually diagnosed by ultrasound and can be managed with diet and other medications such as steroids depending on the severity of the disease. Hope this helps, good luck!

This probably just means that her IBD is no longer being controlled on the current medications and she just needs further management of her condition. I highly recommend that you have reevaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. At the very least they can make sure to treat her symptoms so that you can get her to feel better. Poor Foxie! I would definitely talk to your vet about having additional tests done like a GI panel done. A GI panel tests for B12, folate and two pancreatic enzymes. I would also talk to your vet about trying a daily antacid. I hope this helps!
