If your cat has been diagnosed with feline hyperesthesia syndrome, that could definitely be factoring into her resistance to having you pet her. I recommend scheduling a vet consult to have her examined - many hyperesthesia cats will improve on medication. I would start there, before concluding that her scratching/biting is purely behavioral. Hyperesthesia is basically where the pet has short bouts of excessive itch, that causes them to become very sensitive to touch, sounds, and any interaction really. It causes the pet to act in an exaggerated way which can include biting, tail chasing, and errotic unexplained behavior. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Most cats do not like to be touched past the head normally. But of this is a sudden behavioral change I would recommend a Vet exam since she is getting older. They can see of she is more painful than normal in her back and be sure she hasn't lost weight. There are glucosamines/chondriotins for cats like Dasuquin and Cosequin. In the mean time don't pet her where she doesn't like. When using CBD oil products, there is not much research out there that backs any claims at the moment. What we currently have on the market is so variable in strength and the claims are so vast on what it treats. With any CBD oil product, I always caution owners to use them at their own risk. These could have unwanted side effects. I would only use straight CBD oil and not products that contain THC as THC can be toxic to animals. I would follow the recommendations that your vet gave you for the buprenorphine. Overdosage can cause worsening of the disoriented feeling, including extreme lethargy and inability to move. There have not been any published studies on the use of CBD in pets, yet. Anecdotally, some owners that have used it have felt that it helps with pain. There are no safe dosages known, though, so at this time I cannot safely recommend its use. If you feel like Cucho is still in a lot of pain, then I recommend he be seen by an emergency vet. Based on records you might have and the medications that were prescribed, the vet can prescribe additional pain medications to help with his comfort.
