My cat hunts. Will it affect his rabies titer for Hawaii move?

There are different types of Rabies vaccination titers. The FAVN is required for travel to Rabies free countries, but they also offer the RFFIT which is less expensive, but is not adequate for travel. I think the likelihood of you acquiring rabies is relatively low, however it is much higher for Tomas. I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have his rabies vaccine updated and to discuss a quarantine period if needed. Even if Tomas has been exposed to rabies he would not be able to shed the virus for at least a few weeks.

I know that we charge about $150 for a Rabies titer (PA). I would call practices in your area. California has a higher standard of living than other areas. Your vet has little control over lab prices. Your Vet was probably trying to just be honest and up front that it is just cheaper to vaccinated and meant no harm. For what it’s worth a high rabies titer is not valid as proof of vaccination according to the law. It will not protect your dogs from quarantine at your cost if they bite someone. Rabies is deadly in humans and the law sadly doesn’t care about titers or over vaccination. I wish you the best!

Hopefully Teddy will be ok. You did the right thing by taking him into the vet the next day for the rabies vaccine. Four months isn't extremely far over, so he may have still had some protection from his last shot. I hope this helps!

Since he is six years old an presumably has been kept current on his vaccinations he should have plenty of built-in immunity to tide him over. It is possible to have a titer blood test done to see if he even needs to have a booster, but the drawback to this is that the blood test sometimes costs more than simply doing the vaccinations and it does no harm to give the vaccination.

Good question. With the vaccines she already has, she is considered to be fully vaccinated. However, just check with the state you are taking her to make sure they don't also require the FeLV vaccine as well. The pet will also need a health certificate to travel. Unfortunately it's not likely to increase the chances, what I usually recommend in such a case is to have the vaccine done, then have the test done two weeks later, if the results are not good then have another test done 2 weeks after that.
