Why is my new cat hissing, drinking excessively, and covered in scabs?

It is hard to say exactly what may be occurring sight unseen, but I can certainly offer a couple possibilities. Exhibiting odd behavior randomly as you described can certainly be a sign of a neurological dysfunction occurring in the brain. Sometimes a psychomotor seizure can cause the occurrence of random odd behavior such as vocalizing, exhibiting fear or aggression, etc. These episodes may last a min or so but pet's with psychomotor seizures always do the same thing each time. A postictal period after the seizure may induce hunger, thirst, or a general unwell feeling prompting her to want to be by your side for comfort. A brain tumor could cause the onset of seizures. There are other possibility as well that may explain her behavior. Pain, renal disease, liver disease, or other internal organ dysfunction may contribute. An thorough veterinary exam can help diagnose Spotty as well as basic blood work and perhaps some imaging like an x-ray or ultrasound. I hope this has helped and all the best to you and Spotty!

Increased drinking in cats with a urine that has a strong odor is concerning for a couple possible medical issues, such as diabetes, a urinary tract infection, a kidney issue, or another underlying issue. I would recommend having Missy be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if she has an underlying condition that needs to be addressed, have any diagnostic testing done (urinalysis, bloodwork, etc) and a treatment plan made if needed. Hello, any unusual behavior should be checked out. In her own way, Prudence is trying to tell you something is not right. In a situation like this where your pet is always seemingly hungry and eating other pets food, you want to first rule out any underlying disorder that can cause an increase in appetite, including Diabetes Mellitus. I would first get some baseline bloodwork done at your local vet to do a good overall health check. Then if she comes up clear for any underlying condition, I would recommend getting her on a food that is going to make her feel fuller longer. My top recommendation here is the Royal Canin Feline satiety. I see that she is an older girl, and so the first thing to do is take her into a vet for a health check. Even though she appears healthy, a sudden change in behavior can be the first sign of an illness. So have her seen by a vet in the next few days. I would also get a Sentry calming collar and a Feliway diffuser. Both release calming pheromones, and that may help with her behavior. While at the vet, if she checks out healthy, the vet can discuss other strategies to deal with this. I hope this helps!

Spots could be related to a wide variety of issues- bacterial infection, fungal infection, flea allergy, food allergy, or could be related to a underlying endocrine disorder such as hyperthyroidism or an autoimmune disease. Because there are so many different potential causes here, I would recommend Pixie see his veterinarian very soon to help determine a diagnosis. Your veterinarian may test for a fungal infection, bacterial infection and look for evidence of fleas. In addition, your veterinarian may run blood work to check for any underlying organ issues or endocrine disorders as a potential cause. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Iggy is urinating quite frequently, so there is a chance there is an underlying reason for this. Causes of increased urination (& increased drinking) including endocrine (hormonal) diseases such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, liver disease, or behavioral issues. I recommend having Iggy seen by your veterinarian who can perform blood tests to rule out some of these diseases very easily. If no obvious pathologic cause is found, Iggy's clinical signs may be behavioral in origin. Some things that can be done to help this is adding a litter box to the house, minimizing stress in the house, and adding in a feline pheromone diffuser such as Feliway. I hope this is helpful!
