Is it normal for my 2-year-old cat to go into heat every 2 weeks?

hi my cat comes into heat every 2 weeks without fail is this normal for a cat her age?, she is 2 years old now

Hi there and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

Yes, female cats that are still intact may come into heat once every 1-3 weeks until they are bred. If you don't plan on breeding Bandit, I would recommend spaying Bandit to help eliminate the chances of an unwanted pregnancy as well as uterine and mammary cancers.

    A normal estrus (heat) cycle for a cat lasts about 2-3 weeks. Luna's heat cycle is normal for an intact female cat that has not been mated. Keep her away from intact male cats or consider having her spayed if you do not plan on mating her again.

    Cats are a little different from dogs. Cats are called "seasonally polyestrous" and will cycle from January to mid-October in the US. If there are not bred during a heat cycle, they will continually go in and out of heat during this time. So what you are seeing may be normal, and the best solution will be to have her spayed, so she does not continually go in and out of heat. Unspayed cats over 6 months of age will generally have a heat cycle every 1-6 weeks (on average every 3 weeks). This does not indicate cystic ovaries and pyometra (an pus filled uterus) is generally more of a concern in unspayed dogs and not generally a concern in cats. Unwanted litters and overpopulation is often a concern however, so having Hermionine spayed is recommended if she is in contact with male cats that you do not want her to breed with. Good luck!

Cats are often going into heat within 2 weeks after weaning the kittens. The discharge is called lochia and can last several weeks after the kittens are born. I recommend spaying these cats right around the time the kittens are weaned, or within that 2 week period after, to insure they do not get bred again. Then you won't have to worry about Shadow having another litter.

Why is my female cat so loud and vocal when she's in heat or mating?
Hi and thanks for posting! Vocalizing is very common and a normal behavior in female cats who are in heat and who are ready for mating. Vocalizing is thought to be a behavior used to attract a male to mate. She may continue to vocalize frequently until she comes out of heat or until she is bred. My 6-month-old kitten: is she in heat if male cats are spraying?
It's very possible that she might be - most female cats will go into heat by around 6 months of age, and this will certainly attract males to the area. I would recommend having her spayed if you aren't planning to breed her, as she will be in heat almost constantly until this is done.

Hello. If Pipi is in heat, & it sounds like she might be, spaying her will really help. But she is young & she will have occasional episodes of the zooms for some time to come. My kitten meows constantly after first heat. Is she still in heat?
Cats will remain in heat until they have found a tomcat to engage with. So, unless she had a boyfriend to impregnate her she will not come out of heat. If you do not want kittens you should be kind to her and have her spayed.
