My two cats have hair loss, skin lesions, and open sores. What is it?

I recommend to have the cats examined. When multiple pets break out in lesions, conditions like ringworm (which humans can get), fleas and skin mites are more concerning. Poor Crookshanks (great name!) and his friend! The most common causes of patchy hair loss are from contagious infectious conditions, such as ringworm or mange. Both ringworm and Sarcoptic mange can be transmitted to other animals and humans. I recommend taking both cats to the vet for exams and fungal cultures (to rule out ringworm) and skin scrapes (to rule out the mites causing mange). From there, the vet will be able to determine the best medications for the problem at hand. Also make sure that both cats are receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Advantage or Revolution) monthly to prevent any skin issues due to fleas. I hope that all goes well!

It certainly is possible that Stiletto has ringworm. I would take her into the vet, who can use a Wood's lamp and fungal culture to diagnose if she does have ringworm. Should she have it, the vet can prescribe an antifungal treatment for it. Your other cat will have to be treated for it, as it's highly contagious, and keep an eye on yourself to make sure you don't have ringworm lesions as well because it's contagious to humans. Hello! Mittens' skin lesion could be a result of ringworm, mange, or allergies. Since the lesion has noticeably grown in just 2 days, I would take her to the vet for an exam. Your vet will be able to perform a skin scrape to look for mites, Wood's lamp evaluation and ringworm culture. From there, an appropriate treatment can be started for Mittens.

These lesions look suspicious of scabies mites, ringworm and/or this could be a result of a current ear infection (ear mites) and fleas. Neither of these conditions can be properly diagnosed and treated without the help of your veterinarian unfortunately. I would try to take at least 1 cat in to the vet to have a skin scrape and ear exam + ear cytology (if debris is seen inside the ear canal) to try and confirm the diagnosis so that we know how to best help your pets. Those look like pretty inflamed lesions. There are a few things that come to mind. Cats can get an autoimmune condition called eosinophilic granuloma that requires steroids for treatment and maybe antibiotics to control secondary infections. Check the house and make sure there's no possibility should could have touched something very hot or gotten into anything that could cause a chemical burn. Lastly, fleas and ringworm can be brought in on your shoes/clothing although this would be an abnormal presentation. Rarely, pets can get skin cancer that looks similar to this. I recommend to have Shadow checked out by her veterinarian since this is a mystery and she has two lesions. It's better to be safe.
