Why does my indoor cat have inflamed spots on her neck and body?

Hi, I think one of the first conditions to rule out here would be eosinophilic granuloma complex (EGC) which refers to a group of inflammatory skin problems in cats. The skin lesion on the picture may be an eosinophilic plaque. Common sites are the hind legs and the stomach. The lesions can be large and may be itchy, and the cat may frequently tries to licks and even bites at the affected site which can make it worse. Most cases of ECG are due to allergies ( fleas /food/ atopy=environmental). Flea control is very important in the treatment. Most cases respond well to medical treatment with corticosteroids (prednisolone commonly) and antibiotic if infected. She will need to be checked by a vet to confirm and to be treated. Sylvestor's skin lesion looks quite inflamed and could be due to a skin infection from underlying allergies, ringworm or mange. I recommend taking him to the vet to rule out ringworm and mange, as these can be transmitted to people or other animals. If these issues are ruled out, Sylvestor may need topical or oral antibiotics to manage a skin infection, likely caused by allergies. Allergies in animals often occur to fleas (even one flea bite can cause issues in sensitive animals!), food or the surrounding environment, which then cause an animal to itch and develop a skin infection from itching. The vet will be able to prescribe appropriate medication to clear up this issue before it worsens. I hope that all goes well!

Hello, sorry to hear about your cat. Those do not definitely look like your typical ringworm lesions. They look like your cat has been scratching at them often and likely developed a hot-spot from this. It can be associated with allergies or fleas and will require some medications to control the itchiness and local infection. Finally, your veterinarian may opt to obtain a hair culture to completely rule out the possibility of ringworm. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello. Without an actual hands on diagnosis, it is difficult to tell exactly what this is, but it does resemble a condition call eosinophilic plaques. If this is what you are dealing with, the condition is frequently associated with underlying allergic disease & tend to respond very quickly to glucocorticoids. The allergies can be to fleas, food, something in the environment & even other insect hypersensitivities like to mosquitoes. The cornerstone to therapy is trying to identify & manage the underlying cause(s). If this is done, the prognosis is excellent for a very manageable condition. Skin lesions can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. Cats can also be prone to an inflammatory condition called eosinophilic granuloma complex that can look similar to the pictures of what Ash has. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. In the meantime, you can bathe Ash in hypoallergenic shampoo for cats to clean the area, and put an e-collar (cone) on Ash to help reduce the risk of scratching at the area, but this will likely not resolve the lesions.

That looks uncomfortable on Eclipse’s flank! It is likely infected and she likes needs antibiotics to get that to heal quickly. There could be many underlying causes such as fleas, mites, ringworm (which humans can get), possibility allergies or possiblely contact with some sort of chemical that causes a burn. Regardless, the doctor will prescribe medication for infection and likely to decrease inflammation. She should also wear an Elizabethan collar at all times as her licking will only make it worse. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Shadow. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. I worry that he has an infection on his chin. Some cats are prone to acne which may be the case. However, his chin appears more inflamed than many of these cases. I hope this information helps!
