My cat gurgles after eating/drinking. Is something in her throat?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 12 lbs

Princess is making a werid sound. It happens after she drinks water or eats. Is it possible that she has something stuff in her throat? She also meows when she jumps down off of the couch or my bed. She also gruggles.

Hello, thank you for your question about Princess.

A gurgling noise after eating/drinking/after activity can be secondary to a few different things. My primary concern is that she could have a polyp; polyps are benign growths are not uncommon in cats and can grow in the back of their throat/airway. It is also possible that Princess could have an upper-respiratory infection leading to inflammation and a small amount of fluid build up.

I would recommend having Princess evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can examine her. They will listen to her lungs and look for any evidence of abnormalities. Depending on their findings they may recommend further workup such as bloodwork or a sedated upper airway exam to look for evidence of a polyp.

If theres a lot of inflammation in her throat, or a mass or tumor of some kind. Ideally, take her to your vet for an exam. I'm sorry to hear that your cat isn't quite right. I would be concerned about a tumor or polyp in her throat/mouth, or possibly that she's retching, without actually vomiting. I would agree that getting her to the vet soon (in the next few days, as possible with the holiday) would be wise.

It is possible that Susie may be regurgitating which could be due to a disease called megaesophagus which, although more common in Siamese, can occur in other cats. If Susie does have megaesophagus, she will need to be examined by a veterinarian who will be able to discuss treatment options with you.

Why does my kitten gurgle when breathing after formula feeding?

This would make me concerned about potential aspiration, but it's possible that the gurgling is from upper respiratory congestion. If Ambi is having difficulty breathing, or if she still is not eating well I think you should see a vet tonight even though you have an appointment to be seen tomorrow - these can be serious signs in such a young kitten. If she has been eating well this weekend and gaining weight and seems to breathe normally it is probably okay to wait until your visit tomorrow.

My cat coughs, burps, or hiccups after eating. Is it serious?

It would be honestly hard to say without an exam. Some possible causes could be a food-based one (IE an allergy to an ingredient in the wet food that is causing a reaction after eating it) or a functional one such as a problem with the esophagus or digestive tract's ability to move the food through the body (something very common in cats). An exam would be a good idea to help rule out these causes through either some testing such as X-rays, or through a food trial to see if an ingredient can be ruled out. Until you can get to your vet, offering smaller meals more frequently may help with keeping food down and minimizing discomfort after eating.

What causes a cat to cough after eating, especially with swollen glands?

Coughing after eating is not normal and can have several medical causes such as an upper respiratory infection, feline asthma or bronchitis, or a heart condition. If he has swollen lymph nodes, there may be something infectious or inflammatory going on. I would recommend Susie see her veterinarian again for an exam to make sure there is nothing more serious at play. Your veterinarian may take chest x-rays to help with making a diagnosis.
