My cat makes strange noises after eating. Is it hiccups or more?

It would be honestly hard to say without an exam. Some possible causes could be a food-based one (IE an allergy to an ingredient in the wet food that is causing a reaction after eating it) or a functional one such as a problem with the esophagus or digestive tract's ability to move the food through the body (something very common in cats). An exam would be a good idea to help rule out these causes through either some testing such as X-rays, or through a food trial to see if an ingredient can be ruled out. Until you can get to your vet, offering smaller meals more frequently may help with keeping food down and minimizing discomfort after eating.

If feeding smaller portions and more frequent meals has not helped, this could potentially be a hairball problem. I would recommend a product such as Laxatone and give this 3-5 days of treatment to see if there is a difference. Sometimes, stress or anxiety can lead to hiccups, so using a product such as Feliway (which you can find online or at your local pet store) can sometimes help and put an end to the hiccups. If the hiccups are still there after trying these methods or they become more distressing for Jicky, I would recommend taking her in to be seen by a veterinarian for an examination so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Coughing after eating is not normal and can have several medical causes such as an upper respiratory infection, feline asthma or bronchitis, or a heart condition. If he has swollen lymph nodes, there may be something infectious or inflammatory going on. I would recommend Susie see her veterinarian again for an exam to make sure there is nothing more serious at play. Your veterinarian may take chest x-rays to help with making a diagnosis. It sounds as Tommy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hello, thank you for your question about Princess. A gurgling noise after eating/drinking/after activity can be secondary to a few different things. My primary concern is that she could have a polyp; polyps are benign growths are not uncommon in cats and can grow in the back of their throat/airway. It is also possible that Princess could have an upper-respiratory infection leading to inflammation and a small amount of fluid build up. I would recommend having Princess evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can examine her. They will listen to her lungs and look for any evidence of abnormalities. Depending on their findings they may recommend further workup such as bloodwork or a sedated upper airway exam to look for evidence of a polyp. Hope this helps, good luck!

Your vet has likely diagnosed megaoesophagus in your cat. There is no cure for this condition but it can be managed. Food should be fed from an elevation to allow gravity to help with swallowing. Sometimes a liquid diet is easier to swallow. It is important to monitor the lungs as aspiration pneumonia can easily develop which would require antibiotics. Finally sometimes drugs such as meyoclopramide which increase motility can be useful, but I would consult your vet regarding this.

That is a little strange, especially if it only happens after being in the litter box and no other time. The best thing would be to record the episode and then show it to your vet so he/she can see exactly what your kitten is doing and then decide if it needs to be treated.
