My 4-month-old cat groans in sleep. Is he dreaming or in pain?

No, I wouldn't be concerned if April is just moaning in her sleep but it otherwise acting normal. She could be dreaming, and the moaning could be related to any dreams she is currently having. It's always good to have a senior cat checked out by a vet just to make sure she is healthy, but I wouldn't worry otherwise :-)

That is odd! It’s unknown if pets have nightmares and I’m not sure that we will ever be able to know. Watch Cow for any health issues such as weight loss, imbalance, vomiting or diarrhea and have him seen if these are noted. If you can record the episode, that would be helpful as well. You can always have him seen by his veterinarian and if he gets a clean bill of health, then you can be assured it’s all just behavioral. Sebastian is a very handsome boy! This sigh he's letting out could simply be one of contentment. It sounds like from eventing else you are saying that there are no problems, and he may simply be happy when he's resting, thus letting out a sigh. My cats sigh from time to time, and it's typically when they are happy and rested. I would be more concerned if he was yowling when resting as yowling would be a sound of pain. I hope this helps!

With that kind of vocalization and restless behavior, I suspect he may have a urinary tract infection. I recommend getting him to see your vet as soon as possible, Male cats are especially prone to becoming blocked and unable to urinate. If it isn't urinary, he still may have some underlying medical condition that is making him uncomfortable and restless. Your vet will do an exam and labwork to determine what is causing this behavioral change and how best to treat it.

He is so cute! If your vet did not find any problems and he appears perfectly healthy then it is probably just the way he vocalizes and normal for him. Continue to monitor for any changes or abnormal behavior and recheck with your vet, if needed.

If he is otherwise doing well, he is likely fine and this is not anything important.
