My cat has a gash, acts strange. Where can I find affordable vet care?

There is really not much you can do at home at this point. It is hard to know exactly what is going on as her clinical symptoms are a bit non-specific. However, diseases such as pancreatitis or another inflammatory or cancerous process is possible. You could consider your local humane society as they usually offer inexpensive veterinary care. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Koneko is very cute! I can't make out the scratch on the 2nd picture. Cat bites can be very dirty and commonly cause infections or abscesses. Koneko could have an abscess forming for could be painful after being attacked. She could also be a little traumatized. I would ask your neighbors who they use for Veterinary care. Some large animal (horse or cow) also are mixed animal Vets that also treat cats and dogs. Or I would call your local SPCA and see if they have a low cost Veterinary clinic built in. The best thing for Koneko is to have an exam done, that way we can bet her better. She also needs to start her vaccinations and be dewormed. Until she is better and had her shots I would keep her indoors. I hope this helps and I wish Koneko the best!

However, the best thing you can do is to keep him as quiet as possible for now until you can have him evaluated by a veterinarian. He likely has trauma in multiple places which is why he is so responsive to the touch. Often times after fights they have injuries beyond what you can see from the outside. They would be able to check the extent of the injuries and recommend the best course of action but for now, I recommend that you rest him as much as possible and keep an eye on him to make sure he is ok. Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Until your nearest veterinarian opens, I recommend keeping Psycho as relaxed and quiet as possible. He's likely had a traumatic several weeks! Put him in a dark quiet room with his food, water, and litterbox, and minimize his stress. However, he should be seen by the vet as soon as possible - I'm concerned he may be fighting an abscess (infection) and may require antibiotics to get better. Hope this helps!

This could be as severe as a fracture or something more mild like a soft tissue injury. The fact that he is crying when the leg is manipulated indicates that he is quite painful requiring pain control medications at least. If he does have a fracture, he may actually require surgery. For this reason it is crucial that he is indeed evaluated by a veterinarian. You could consider taking him to your local humane society as often times they offer less expensive veterinary care. Without seeing him in person, I can’t say exactly what is wrong with his paw, but it may be he injured it, has a broken bone in it, or a foreign body. The fact that he screams whenever you touch it tells me he is in a lot of pain, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxi to cats, and are fatal if given. You don’t have a choice but to take him into a vet. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Even though a close examination is usually needed for confirmation, I would highly suspect that these will require sutures to be able to close them. I highly recommend that you have Clyde evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
