My cat has deep wounds, is hiding, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Hi, yes it looks like Precious has a wound. It could be an abscess that has opened and is trying to heal. If this is the case, Precious will require the area to be cleaned thoroughly by your veterinarian and might also need antibiotics. Do you have another cat that might have unwillingly caused this ? Ouch, poor Eddie! Unfortunately, it's impossible to fully assess this wound's severity from a picture alone. The wound itself looks fairly large and appears to be covered in a hair-crusted scab. The challenge likes in how deep the wound goes under the scab, and if it penetrates into the tooth roots, jaw, or salivary glands. To answer your question, yes, Eddie does need veterinary attention. Since he's afraid of people, it's likely that he will need to be sedated in order for your veterinarian to examine this wound. Your vet will need to determine the depth of the wound, and at a minimum, will need to clip the hair around the wound and clean it with an antiseptic cleanser. I fully expect that they'll prescribe an antibiotic or give a long-acting antibiotic injection, as it's likely that this wound is also infected. Try to get to the vet as soon as you can - preferably within the next day. Until your vet appointment, be sure to put an e-collar (cone) on Eddie to prevent him from scratching at this area, as that will make matters worse. Best of luck and I hope that he heals quickly!

That looks like a pretty bad wound that needs to be seen by your vet. Wounds on cats can easily get abscessed (infected) and if Nani is also weak and not eating I would be concerned he is very ill or in a lot of pain. Your vet can clip and clean the area, stitch up or drain any wounds/swelling, and provide you with pain medications and antibiotics to help with recovery.

Poor Claws! I don't think you should let that heal without treatment and should take him to a vet. Your vet can clean the wound and then suture it so it heals properly. He will also need an antibiotic to prevent infection.

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

However, with a history of possible trauma and the presence of blood then a fracture is possible. Just based on the presence of blood and the possibility of a fracture, I would highly recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what seems to be the issue so that it can be treated accordingly. Good luck!

I would give her a few hours to see if she'll eventually come out on her own to inspect her for injuries. You can try enticing her out with cat food or even some chicken warmed up so it's really smelly, and then inspect her as she's focused on eating. If she won't come out/eat at all, seems severely injured or in distress, or you suspect wounds, it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP especially since wild animals can transmit diseases.
