My kitten has fungal infection, now won't eat, poop, and is lethargic.

Diarrhea is not an indication of fighting an infection, it's an indication that the kitten is sick. It could also be a side effect of medication, but typically a topical medication will not cause diarrhea. It could be that Rescue could have intestinal worms causing her diarrhea, which is common in kittens. It could also be due to a GI illness. Given her young age, I would have her seen by a vet for this diarrhea. Best of luck.

Hi. I wouldn't worry about that nail. As far as diarrhea and lethargy, I would get her checked for parasites. Give your veterinarian a call for an appointment and bring a fresh poop sample to be checked. Make sure they keep eating and drinking

I strongly recommend an urgent vet check and fecal exam - profuse diarrhea and inappetance is very serious in such a young kitten and could rapidly lead to severe dehydration and debilitation. Offer only bland feeds of boiled chicken, fish or egg in the meantime, with an added probiotic such as fortiflora

It's great that he is eating wet food, and the most important thing is that he's getting nutrition in him. It's fine that he's avoiding dry food at the moment. I'd be more worried if he wasn't eating at all. Antibiotics can cause GI upset, so that may be playing a part in his loose stools and lack of appetite. Try to tempt him to eat by offering him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) with some low sodium gently warmed chicken broth. Do not give him any human pain medication, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. I would contact his vet to let them know you are seeing this behavior, and they will advise you if they want you to bring him back in for a check up. I hope this helps!

Given her age there are several things that cross my mind, but a common issue in these young kittens is parasites. Sometimes their parasite burden can be so high that they cannot maintain adequate glucose levels, and also can become uninterested in food and sometimes will begin vomiting. I would recommend deworming her. Also, it would be important to rule out signs of infection and/or sepsis. I think she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. Such a young and small animal can deteriorate quickly even with easy to resolve issues like gastrointestinal parasites.

It sounds like he is getting sick. Without additional clinical signs it is hard to say exactly what is causing his lethargy and decreased appetite but he could be starting with a respiratory virus or a gastrointestinal virus. He could also have parasites that need to be treated. If it continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run lab work to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If he is unvaccinated, please discuss a vaccine plan with your vet once he has recovered from this illness.

I'm sorry to hear this! It sounds like Smoky may have an issue such as constipation or even GI upset that is causing the problem. If the anus or rectal area are very irritated, that may cause fecal incontinence as well. It sounds as if Smoky is feeling pretty ill, and would benefit from additional examination and testing to try and find the cause. (Possibly with another vet!)
