My cat has an ear infection, on antibiotics, not eating, loose stool.

You can try to entice his appetite with things like tuna, tuna water and chicken. If his appetite does not improve by tomorrow, let your veterinarian know as anorexia can be detrimental to a cat's health. Good luck and have a great day!

If his appetite has decreased with antibiotics, I would recommend discontinuing the antibiotics and seeing how his appetite improves. If he continues to be inappetant or is lethargic, I would have the veterinarian recheck him to ensure everything is ok. If he continues to be itchy, I would recommend using a topical shampoo such as Douxo PS shampoo which can be found online quite easily and bathe twice weekly until resolved. I would also recommend using Essential 6 spot on by Dermoscent, which can also be found online. If he continues to be itchy, it may be time to consider switching to a different food or even consider seeing a veterinary dermatologist. I hope this helps! The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!

Many antibiotics cause gastrointestinal issues in cats so you will need to call your vet and let them know what is going on. Most likely they will have you stop one or both of the antibiotics and prescribe something different. I would also suggest that you put him on a pre/probiotic while he is taking antibiotics and then continue for at least one week after the antibiotics have been stopped. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Antibiotics, diet change, and a new home causing stress can all cause loose stools, so it could be a combination of these things causing it, however I would schedule Gizmo's checkup anyway since that's always a good idea to do with any new pet, especially one that is already currently on medications. Your vet can rule out any other health issues, deworm in case of parasites, and help you get started on a vaccination plan or treatment plan for any other underlying issues.

The sore in the ear could indicate an ear infection or ear mites if he is scratching at the ear. The intermittent GI issues could be related to the diet or an imbalance of normal gut bacteria. I would recommend switching the diet to something different altogether such as Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina One or Natural Balance. You can also add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! Hello there! I'm sorry to hear that Jojo isn't feeling well. Loose stool is not uncommon during times of stress in cats (such as when they are sick), but it could be caused by many other things as well. New or strange foods, parasites, and infections can also be culprits. Since Jojo is fighting off what sounds like an upper respiratory infection (runny nose with mucous), it's not all that surprising that she's also have some soft stool. Excess mucous that is swallowed can also cause some intestinal upset. I do highly recommend that Jojo visits the vet for her runny, irritated nose and loose stool. While most upper respiratory infections in cats are viral in nature and may subside on their own, it sounds like Jojo may be dealing with some other issues that are causing her to not feel well. In the meantime, keeping Jojo's nose clean with a soft cloth and some warm water will be helpful in preventing further irritation. Additionally, putting her in a small room that is humidified (like a bathroom with the shower running hot) can help keep these secretions fluid and moving, instead of getting all gunked up. I recommend doing this a few times a day for 15 minutes at a time. At the vet's office, Jojo will have her heart and lungs listened to. This is very important as some upper respiratory infections, even if caused by a virus, can cause a secondary bacterial infection in the lungs which can lead to pneumonia. She'll have her temperature taken (I'm glad that you are able to check this at home and that it has gone down), and they may want to collect a stool sample to check for parasites. Antibiotics and potentially some fluids under the skin (to help prevent dehydration from all the mucous and loose stool) may be in Jojo's future. These are all things that will help her on the road to recovery, but can only be administered by your vet. I hope that you can get an appointment for Jojo soon! If she becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, or seems to have trouble breathing, please bring her to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital right away. Good luck, and I hope she feels better!
