My 9-month-old cat's first heat was only 2 days. Is this normal?

What gorgeous cats! Cats are induced ovulators, meaning that mating will causes them to ovulate. Most females require three to four matings within a 24 hour period for ovulation to occur. After a few matings, their heat cycle will shorten in length. Eggs will be released in response to a hormone surge that is triggered by the breeding. This does not indicate cystic ovaries and pyometra (an pus filled uterus) is generally more of a concern in unspayed dogs and not generally a concern in cats. I think in this case there are basically two possibilities: either she did not go into heat (that can happen anytime up to the 18th month or she went and she showed few signs. It is not common to observe vaginal bleeding from a cat in heat. The most notable signs of estrus in cats are behavioral. Most cats become very affectionate, even demanding; they persistently rub against their owners (or objects such as furniture), constantly wanting attention. They roll on the floor. When stroked along the back or spine, they raise their rear quarters into the air and tread with the back legs. They also become very vocal. These behavior changes often become annoying to owners, and sometimes owners think their cat has some unusual illness.

If she doesn't mate while in heat, then she may go out of heat for and come back into heat 1-2 weeks later. She may continue to come back into heat every couple of weeks during the breeding season (January-September) until she is bred. I hope this helps!
