What's the estimated cost to test a newly found cat for FeLV/FIV?

Hi there. This will vary quite a bit depending on where you live and what clinic you go to, so it's hard to give a good "general" answer for the entire US. But to give you a general idea, in my area, the total cost for a first kitten visit (exam, FeLV/FIV test, fecal exam +/- deworming, first set of vaccines, and first dose of flea/HW meds) would usually be in the $150-250 range. In some parts of the country, it could be considerably more - so if cost is a concern, I would suggest calling around to some local clinics to ask about their prices before your visit.

Though hissing at your other cat may just be normal cat behavior when they don't know each other! I'm in the US so pricing maybe different and even in the US prices vary depending on location. An office visit is around $50. If she is pregnant they likely won't vaccinate her. Vaccines are around $25-$35 each and cats usually get 3 (with boosters). They won't charge to scan her for a microchip. Deworming is cheap, maybe $20. If you want to test her for feline leukemia and feline aids that may be $50. All in US dollars. Hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Aldo will need 2 additional boosters of the combo vaccine (pankleuk,rhinotrach, calici). One at 12 weeks and the final at 16 weeks of age. Aldo will need the feline leukemia vaccine if he is going to be an outdoor cat or interact with cats with questionable or unknown vaccine histories. However, a complete set of vaccinations, a neuter surgery and microchip would probably at the end be a few hundreds dollars ($300-500). Again that will very variable on the state you are and the clinic you go to. Usually baseline general labwork will be performed which could help identify any issues he may have. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Diagnostic tests are not readily available. The tests can be involved and expensive and have a high incidence of false negative results. The different tests include conjunctival smears for cytology and indirect fluorescent antibody tests (IFA), virus isolation (PCR), and serologic tests for serum neutralizing antibodies procedures have proven to be the most reliable. It is more sensitive and has fewer false negative results than the IFA test. Its drawbacks include the fact that few laboratories do the test, I do not know of one, and false negatives are still possible. Response to therapy and clinical signs may be the best diagnostic test. If you still want to test I recommend discussing the pricing with your Vet, but PCR and IFA will likely cost around $200. And I am not sure what "knowing" by a test will change for Winston.
