Your vet is going to have to sedate/anesthetize him so they can get a good look inside his mouth. He may need x-rays of his skull/mouth. There is only so much the vet tell by looking at the mouth/teeth of an awake cat. That would be the next step. This is not normal.

Poor Mara! It could be she was injured while you were gone, she could be experiencing an allergic reaction, or she could have a dental problem. In the second picture, it looks like there is a cloudiness in her left eye. That has to be checked out by a vet if it hasn't already. Get her into a vet as soon as possible. Best of luck.

A sudden swelling under the jaw could be an abscess. Typically these need to be seen by a vet; as they often need to be lanced/drained to get the pus and infection out; then started on antibiotics. Pain medication may be given as well. If he isn't eating, if he's acting lethargic or otherwise not feeling well (vomiting, diarrhea, any change in breathing) seek emergency care. If your vet's office is closed, they likely have a message with who to call or where to seek after hours care in the case of an emergency. She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. They will also be able to start her on some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory if needed. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Dahlia could have an abscess, root tooth abscess, or some other infection or mass. She should be seen by her veterinarian to be evaluated and receive proper treatment. She may need antibiotics or other medications.
