My cat was sprayed with fabric softener. Is it safe or toxic?

Oh no, that was naughty of Toby to knock over the fabric softener and then walk in it. Yes, it can make him sick to lick it. Fabric softeners can contain cationic detergents, and ingesting it can be toxic. There is a possibility of severe side effects such as vomiting, oral ulcers, seizures, drops in blood pressure, collapse, or fluid in the lungs. I would bath him now in water water and Dawn dish soap to get all the fabric softener off of him. Make sure to bathe him thoroughly, and keep an eye on him. If you see any signs of toxicity, which include difficulty breathing, vomiting, excessively salivation, lethargy, collapse, seizures, or congestion, I would have him seen by a vet immediately.

Try to wrap him in a towel (so he cannot scratch you) and then rinse his feet. He will hate you today. But he will love you again after a while. It would be better if he did not ingest the shower gel.

It can be irritating to the skin and irritating to the stomach if a lot is ingested, but wouldn't be toxic beyond that. You can just rinse the areas that had contact with the cleaner with normal water. Flush the area for a minute and continue to keep her off of the carpet until it dries and she should be fine. If Boo ingested any through grooming I would expect stomach upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. If you wiped him down immediately and he is otherwise acting fine there is likely nothing to be worried about. If he has any abnormal signs mentioned above or is just not acting himself I would recommend that you have him checked out by your veterinarian.

Likely nothing will happen if it was just a light spray. In general these products will cause irritation the to nasal passage way. If you have any concerns, I recommend to call the manufacturer of the perfume. They will be familiar with the safety studies and will be able to tell you if the ingredients have toxic risks. Since you washed her off, I think she will be fine. Watch her for any abnormal behaviors (not eating/drinking, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, etc). Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. As long as your cat doesn't eat/drink an excessive amount of this shampoo, she should be just fine. And as long as you didn't get any into her eyes, she should be OK. In the future, it is not recommended to use human shampoos on animals - there are special animal shampoos that are not as irritating if gotten into the eyes, and nontoxic if consumed. I recommend monitoring for any vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, or any neurologic signs such as tremors or seizures. These could indicate a toxicity. If she is squinting her eyes, this could mean you got shampoo in her eyes and caused damage to her corneas. If you see any of these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian right away.
