My cat touched a dryer sheet. Is it toxic? What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that Ace should be fine as long a there are no signs of ingestion. Dryer sheets are very toxic if ingested due to the chemicals on the sheets and the fact that they are non-digestible. If he licked/ingested the chemicals off he could show oral irritation (drooling, not eating, vomiting) or skin irritation and in severe cases of ingestion breathing problems and kidney problems. Long story short, if the sheet is intact and he is eating and not drooling he is likely fine! I hope this helps!

Dryer sheets can be toxic if ingested, but are not terribly toxic when rubbed on the hair/skin. It may cause some irritation though and could cause some issues if licked, so it's best to just rinse him really well with water. After that, I would not worry about any problems occurring. If you think he vomited up all the pieces he could have eaten from the dryer sheet and is eating and no longer vomiting then hopefully he will be fine. The chemicals on the dryer sheet could have causes stomach and intestinal irritating resulting in vomiting and diarrhea, The other concern for ingestion is obstruction. So if Ezio isn't eating or continues to vomit he should be seen by a Vet. Hopefully the diarrhea is also self limiting. If the diarrhea continues you should have him seen by your Vet. Oh no, that was naughty of Toby to knock over the fabric softener and then walk in it. Yes, it can make him sick to lick it. Fabric softeners can contain cationic detergents, and ingesting it can be toxic. There is a possibility of severe side effects such as vomiting, oral ulcers, seizures, drops in blood pressure, collapse, or fluid in the lungs. I would bath him now in water water and Dawn dish soap to get all the fabric softener off of him. Make sure to bathe him thoroughly, and keep an eye on him. If you see any signs of toxicity, which include difficulty breathing, vomiting, excessively salivation, lethargy, collapse, seizures, or congestion, I would have him seen by a vet immediately.

It can be irritating to the skin and irritating to the stomach if a lot is ingested, but wouldn't be toxic beyond that. You can just rinse the areas that had contact with the cleaner with normal water. Flush the area for a minute and continue to keep her off of the carpet until it dries and she should be fine. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Aside from some froathing/foaming from irritation from the mouth she should be fine. If she seems like she is irritated in the mouth you can rinse it with water (turn her head sideways and stream water through sideways, so that you are not pouring water into her mouth that she could get into her airway).
