My cat's eye rolls back after being outside. Injury or infection?

Hello. I would guess that Henry has a mild irritation or scratch to his cornea. It is mild now, but you should have this looked at tomorrow as it could get worse. Mild corneal irritations can heal very quickly with proper treatment, but can get bad fast if ignored. Gently clean it with warm water, and monitor it. If it looks infected, or she rubs at it, you see redness in the eye, or eye discharge, then I would take her into a vet. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the pictures you posted it does not look that there is anything very serious going on with her left eye. Squinting the eye could be result of trauma (usually scratch from another cat) or infection. Please, keep wiping the eye and giving her soothing eye drops. If the eye is not back to normal after 5-6 days, you will have to try and get her seen by a vet.

I would suspect that he may have gotten into a fight with another animal outdoors, or he could have injured his eye. He can't keep his eye open because the eye is painful to light. He has to see a vet immediately. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I always treat eye problems as emergencies since the eyes are very special sense organs and injuries/problems with them can deteriorate very quickly. It sounds like she may have scratched or poked the cornea (the outer surface of the eye). If the cornea is damaged, it needs to be treated right away and evaluated for a possible foreign body also. This condition is very painful so that's another to treat right away. Your vet can get a detailed history, do an exam, advise some tests (corneal stain, tear test if needed, measure eye pressure) and then advise a sound treatment plan with follow up appointments as needed. Eye drops, eye ointments, pain medicines, e collars to prevent self trauma to the eye, etc are all possible treatments. Good luck with Jynx.

I'm so sorry that Myrtle has been injured. Injuries to the cornea (the clear outer portion of the eye) are very painful, so that is likely why Myrtle is keeping her eye closed. Hopefully Myrtle just has a small scratch that will heal well, but I would strongly recommend having it evaluated ASAP to get her on antibiotics if there is a scratch. So it appears the third eyelid is showing, which means Oreo either has an eye infection or has injured her eye. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into your closest vet now. Best of luck.
