Excessive discharge and crusty nose as well may be due to an upper respiratory tract infection possibly due to a viral infection. These infections can be quite severe and cause superficial keratitis when they affect the cornea as well. That may be the reason for the cloudy appearance of the left eye. Any eye problem is considered serious because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It's possible that Shy does have a scratch on his eye, that can often only be visualized with a fluorescein stain. It could also be that he has an eye infection. I recommend taking him into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing the discharge from his eye, and can prescribe a treatment for it. Both of those conditions should be examined quickly to prevent them from getting worse. I recommend to call around and look for another clinic. If you can't find one, then I recommend to go to an emergency clinic. In a pinch some of the walk in vaccine clinics might be able to help if they have access to eye medications and testing strips for corneal ulcers. Tractor Supply might be an option as they host walk in clinics. They use a company called PetVet and I recommend to look on the website for more information. You will see a high variability in the vaccine clinics ability to handle any type of illness so you'll need to check ahead. At home, Jerry should wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent scratching or rubbing at the eye which will make it worse. Keep the eye clean from discharge with a warm, damp cotton ball. Sneezing and eye discharge make me suspicious of a viral infection, especially feline herpes virus. Herpes virus can cause a myriad of eye problems including ulcers, conjunctivitis, and keratitis. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon as you don’t want the problem to get worse. The pictures are quite dark, so it's not possible to actually see the eye, but this type of case is usually due to a scratch to the outside of the eye, or a foreign body stuck under the eyelid. Scratches to the outside of the eye are not usually easy to see and we often need to apply a special stain to the eye in order to detect it. For now, it's best if you can flush the eye with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. Flush the eye 3-4 times daily and gently wipe away the discharge with a warm/moist cotton or cloth. It's also possible that there is an infection in the eye, or conjunctiva that is causing this.
