My cat has a cloudy eye with discharge that won't clear up. Advice?

This could be due to a scratch on the eye and/or an infection. The possible infection can be on the outside, or inside of the eye. There are also some eyelid disorders that can cause damage to the eye. Without seeing it, I can't narrow it down more than this. However, the cloudy discharge is concerning enough that it's best to take Shasta to a vet within the next 24 hours. Infections and other problems can quickly cause irreversible damage to the eye, so it's best to have it diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. For now, you can flush the eye 3-4 times a day with saline (can get this at the pharmacy or supermarket in the eye care section) to help clean and soothe it. Both of those conditions should be examined quickly to prevent them from getting worse. I recommend to call around and look for another clinic. If you can't find one, then I recommend to go to an emergency clinic. In a pinch some of the walk in vaccine clinics might be able to help if they have access to eye medications and testing strips for corneal ulcers. Tractor Supply might be an option as they host walk in clinics. They use a company called PetVet and I recommend to look on the website for more information. You will see a high variability in the vaccine clinics ability to handle any type of illness so you'll need to check ahead. At home, Jerry should wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent scratching or rubbing at the eye which will make it worse. Keep the eye clean from discharge with a warm, damp cotton ball. But really, medication from the veterinarian is the main stay of treatment. I hope this helps and that you find a vet quickly.

Excessive discharge and crusty nose as well may be due to an upper respiratory tract infection possibly due to a viral infection. These infections can be quite severe and cause superficial keratitis when they affect the cornea as well. That may be the reason for the cloudy appearance of the left eye. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. It is likely due the difference in anatomy of the small eye. She may have an allergy or infection that is making worse currently. I would have your vet check it to see if medication is needed to help control the discharge and inflammation. If the eye is otherwise quiet, talk to them about having the eye removed if this is a long term problem since it is no visual anyway, it can help with over all comfort long term
