Kitten's eye barely open after spay. Could it be Horner's syndrome?

Hello! Sometimes after anesthesia pets will take a little time to return to normal, and that can include being a little droopy or sedate for about 24 hours. However, if the eyelid is still droopy in 48 hours, you should have your cat examined for other problems, such as a nerve that isn't working or an irritation on the eye. Hope this helps!

That could be a side effect of the anesthetics, Ketamine which is widely used for cat spays can cause this symptom, it usually resolve within 24-48 hours. If you think she is still showing signs of partial blindness by tomorrow, call your vet.

By your description, it sounds as though Orion may have developed Horner's syndrome or other neurologic deficit, or is having an abnormal reaction to his anesthesia or pain medications. This is not typically a normal post-anesthetic finding, but I just read a few rare reports of cats developing Horner's syndrome after anesthetized dental cleanings. Call your vet to discuss Orion's clinical signs so that he can have a full neurologic exam performed.

Some cats can experience mild lingering effects from anesthesia up to 24 hours after the procedure. Try to let Coix sleep today and keep him confined to a large crate or very small room to prevent him from running, jumping and playing, as this could delay healing of his surgical site. Hi there and thanks for your post! It sounds like Poppy may be dealing with an infection, either eye or upper respiratory infection. Many cats develop upper respiratory infection symptoms due to herpes virus that they were exposed to as kittens. If the eye is discharging and she is uncomfortable, I would get her examined by the vet to ensure there is nothing serious going on. I think Lovely is still under the influence of the anesthetics, this type of awakening is typical to anesthesia with ketamine, she will very soon come out of it, in a few hours she should be back to her normal self.
