My cat has an extra nail on his paw pad. What's the best treatment?

With these extra nails, it is important to have them trimmed regurally as they won't wear down by walking like the others. If she will not allow you to cut them, or if you don't know how, you can have your veterinarian do it for you, and teach you in the process. Cat nails are very easy once you get the hang of it, depending on your cat's temperament, of course.

This looks like a cutaneous horn which is a keratin growth from the paw pad. I would consider having this removed and having the growth sent for histopathology as it could be benign or caused by cancerous process.

If Gray is still able to move well and not in pain, then I would let it go without treatment. Cats (and dogs) do well on 3 limbs if necessary but if he’s in pain it needs to be addressed. That appears to be an ingrown toe nail. The dewclaw nail can grow into a circle and into the paw pad. I would take it to the vet as soon as possible. This is very painful but also usually needs antibiotics due to infection.

It's not related to the conjunctivitis, but cats can grown corns on the bottom of their feet. They can be removed if they grow large enough to cause discomfort, which this one might be. If it is removed, I recommend having it submitted for biopsy to make sure it's something benign and not a rare cancerous growth.

Possible causes are: papilloma or squamous cell carcinoma in situ (Bowen's disease), both caused by papillomavirus. Excision or treatment with imiquimod, retioid cream, or salicylic acid should be effective. If it doesn't bother Spooky, it most likely won't hurt to leave it alone (unless it becomes more malignant in behavior). It could also be benign hyperkertinized growths. They may need to be managed with sanding dows and or clipping regularly. You can also try Kerasol which is OTC or Snout Soother by American Dog co to help keep them soft. You can apply this 1-2 times daily. It may be best to have your Vet see the area first! Good luck

This claw looks very malformed - I wonder if he had previous trauma to his toe. If he’s never had an x-ray of his foot it might be a good idea to make sure the bones in his toes look normal. If he doesn’t limp he may not be significantly painful, but if he does limp pain medication, joint supplements or even amputation of the toe might be indicated.
