Cat got extra meds & has bloody urine. Is it safe to continue?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

He weight about 10.5 lbs. His antibiotics are Clavaseptin 62.5 mg & Prazosin 1mg (1/2). One dose of each every 12 hours. What happened is I gave him his doses at 11 pm but around 3 am, I woke up panicking thinking I missed his doses so I gave him an extra dose (without knowing, I was half asleep). Now, he seems fine exept there was a little bit of blood in his urine. I skipped his doses this morning at 11am. I can't bring him to the vet today. Is it safe for me to still give him is 11pm doses?

The clavaseptin will be fine as it does has a wide dose range. However, the prazosin is not an antibiotic it is a medication used in high blood pressure etc. I assume your cat has some sort if urinary issue or high blood pressure if it is on this medication? Thankfully the dose range for prazosin is 0.25mg to 1mg per cat every 8 to 12 hours so even though you gave a double dose 2 half tablets is still within range. I would go ahead and give your tablets this evening as long as the cat has seemed okay today. Try and stick to the schedule as best you can.
If you are worried that your cat is sleepy/dizzy I would take him to the vet as soon as you can.

It's a good question, but rest assured the safety margin for using Zeniquin is high - this means that you are not likely to see any issues by giving Leopold an accidental extra dose tonight. I would suggest that you continue by using the Clavamox every 12hrs, and repeating the next dose of Zeniquin tomorrow evening. It is best if both meds are given around mealtime - they are less likely to cause nausea and vomiting if given with a meal. Please feel free to ask any additional questions.

This should be fine as most commonly used antibiotics have wide dose ranges and good safety margins. It does depend on the specific antibiotic though and dosage, to be safe you can either ring your vet for advice or repost with more details here.

Either one of those antibiotics would be fine. In general the amoxicillin -clavulanoc may be slightly better absorbed. Unless your cat is a breeding cat, I recommend to have her spayed as this will provide many health benefits. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My cat has blood in urine, coughing, won't eat. Can I give Amoxicillin?
He should be examined by a vet before giving any medication, especially if he is not eating. He may have an infection but a vet should look at him first to decide if Amoxicillin is the best antibiotic to use. He may also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. Please call your vet and have him examined. Your vet can check a urine sample to look for an infection or other diseases that can cause blood in the urine. Hope he feels better soon!

I believe it is a safe antibiotic and does a good job for animals with urinary tract infections. I would continue the clavamox as prescribed by your Vet.
