My cat's intestines are exposed. What do I do if I can't afford a vet?

Poor Sisi! I'm very sorry she may have gotten shot! Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for her at home. She will need x-rays to see if she has been shot, surgery to remove the bullet, and medications to treat the pain and avoid infection. Please do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. She has to see vet now. I would see if your vet will accept payment plans, or if there is a low cost clinic in your area. If your cat has a prolapsed rectum it needs to be reinserted. If you do this at home it will likely come right back out. Typically these need to be reinserted under anesthesia and a purse string suture placed around the rectum to keep it in. No this is not generally something that will repair itself. A perforation of the intestines needs to be operated on surgically in order to heal. The mesentery in the intestines will attempt to plug the hole by adhering to the area, but this is not guaranteed and also has a high risk of peritonitis (infection in the belly) as well as creating a rent (hole that other abdominal organs can then get trapped in). Therefore, the best advise is to surgically close the hole, investigate the area to make sure no foreign material needs to also be removed, and then flush the belly to clear out any septic material. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). The area should be shaved first and washed profusely with clean water. Disinfection can be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
