Is it okay to give my cat dewormer that expired a year ago?

There is a slight risk that the dewormer was contaminated. Monitor for signs of vomiting, diarrhea and lack of appetite. If she displays any of these then a trip to the veterinarian for treatment is recommended. Typically though the main issue is the medicine just isn't effective anymore and you can follow-up with a non-expired dewormer after waiting 24 hrs to make sure she has none of the signs mentioned above. However, she should be ok with conservative treatment through your vet even if she does have an upset stomach.

However, I would encourage you to call your primary vet and talk about your options. If your outdoor cats have tapeworms, they very likely have roundworms and/or hookworms as well, so ideally the cats should be treated with something a bit more broad-spectrum. You're right that vets certainly prefer doing an exam on each animal prior to dispensing medication (we are legally required to have a "doctor/patient relationship" to dispense medication).....but depending on your relationship with your vet, some vets may make exceptions when it comes to deworming outdoor/feral cats. Hello. If your cat goes outdoors at all, or has problems with fleas, it is not wrong to be proactive in preventing intestinal parasites. We basically do this when we administer monthly heartworm preventative to cats ( & dogs ). So yes, it is OK to worm your cat, at least a couple of times a year with a broad spectrum wormer. Do not give the dogs any more dewormer at this stage. Wait at least 7 days before you give them the correct dewormer. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

It is never recommended to use expired medications. It may not work or can make your pet ill. Purchase new medication from your veterinarian. Apply it a few days before or after bathing. Vacuum everywhere the cat has been and wash all bedding in hot water. Use a feline safe area treatment to prevent reinfestation and treat your cat for a minimum of 3 months, preferably year round.
