Can I safely give a deworming tablet to my cat with kidney disease?

The medication in Vermox syrup is mebendazole, which should not affect the kidneys. I would assume that the tapeworm injection was praziquantel which also should not affect the kidneys (praziquantel is not effective against roundworms).

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It depends on what medication you were given. If it was Panacur (fenbendazole) then it is one dose daily for 3 days. If you can re-post with the name of the medication, if it is not panacur, we can answer better. Not all dewormers are dosed the same. I hope this helps!

Daily SQ fluid therapy, blood pressure medications, as well as supplemental vitamins and phosphorus binders (if the phosphorus is high) can be given. The Prosense Dewormer packaging label says for kittens under 6 weeks of age give 1/4 teaspoon per 2.5 lbs and is not recommended for kittens under 2.5 lbs. I would ask your veterinarian for another medication that can be used in small kittens (such as pyrantel). The anti-diarrhea medication from Nutri-Vet is okay to give. Kittens are frequently born with roundworms. This is not uncommon. They get roundworms through their mother during pregnancy and during nursing. I hope this helps!

Do not give the dogs any more dewormer at this stage. Wait at least 7 days before you give them the correct dewormer. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
