Why does my cat drool excessively only when sleeping, but not awake?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My cat seems to be drooling excessively in his sleep since today morning. He is completely fine when he is awake(doesn’t drool) . Doesn’t look like he has any problem with his teeth. What else could it be? [the vet gave him 2 injections and didn’t tell me for what] we do not have good vets at our place. Please help.

Drooling can be caused due to a teeth problem, gum disease, kidney failure and other gastrointestinal conditions, because it happens in his sleep i would still mainly suspect a teeth/gum problem, that would make the most sense.
