Why is my cat drooling thick, stinky saliva with jaw problems?

Typically excess salivation is either caused by nausea or pain (oral or abdominal), although this is not an all inclusive list. There can still be oral disease present, especially if these missing teeth were not removed but fell out. Cats can get resorptive lesions of their teeth which can be really painful and the changes can be hard for owners to detect. They can also get lesions in their mouth (stomatitis, a mass, ulcers, etc.) that an owner may not see. Additionally diseases of other body systems may cause drooling (kidneys, gi, etc ). I would recommend your kitty seeing a vet for a thourough oral exam and blood work to start. A good oral exam will likely require sedation and perhaps dental xrays. Even with no teeth the drooling is abnormal. I would be concerned that he has an infection or stomatitis of the mouth or possibly kidney disease causing him to be uremic- a build up of toxins in the blood that can cause ulcers and other problems. I would recommend getting him to a vet for evaluation and possible medications to help keep his twilight years comfortable.

Hello. Roxie probably has some significant dental disease, & this is often accompanied by a condition called stomatitis, which is a chronic irritation of the tissues within the mouth. The exact cause is unknown, but it is often multifactorial involving bacterial infections & an abnormal immune system. Your history definitely points to this, but your veterinarian needs to confirm things. Treatment can be relatively simple with antibiotics & periodic use of steroids. Most important will be an initial examination & cleaning of the teeth under general anesthesia. In the worse case, all the teeth may need to be removed because they present an ever presence of antigens in the mouth that promote the painful lesions. Poor Faye! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. It's possible that she may have stomatitis, or she could have an infected tooth, an injury of some kind in her mouth, or even some type of oral tumor. I would recommend taking her to the vet to be seen as soon as possible, since it sounds like she's extremely painful and uncomfortable. Your veterinarian can do a careful oral exam to help diagnose the problem and see what kind of treatment is needed.

I am sorry Castor is not feeling well. I would recommend taking Castor to the vet for a really good physical exam. It is possible Castor has a bad tooth, infection in her mouth, upper respiratory infection, or even a problem with her esophagus/stomach. Typically drooling is related to nauseas, hyper salivation, pain in the mouth or trauma to the mouth. It is important she has a good exam to determine the cause and start proper treatment

I suggest taking your cat to your veterinarian or a 24-hour emergency clinic as soon as possible. Excessive drooling in a cat can be a sign of a number of problems including (but not limited to) nausea, dental disease. Ingestion of a toxin, foreign object caught in the mouth, salivary gland disease, ulcers in the mouth, cancer of the mouth, neurological disorders, or eating something that tastes very bad. Excessive drooling is also a symptom of rabies. Many cats will chatter their teeth while watching birds or other prey animals; however, chattering could alos be an indication of pain or neurological in nature.

I would be concerned about Zapatitos being nauseas, having infection or trauma inside the mouth or even a toxin if possible exposure. I would recommend taking her to a vet to have a good detailed exam to help narrow down why Zapatitos is hyper salivating. It is important to look under her tongue and make sure string is not attached causing a foreign body. Also you can look in her mouth to make sure you do not see any type of sores. Sometimes cats will chew electrical wires and get burns in the mouth or even have viruses that cause ulcers. All of these things can cause hyper salivation. I think a vet visit is best to help Zapatitos feel better as soon as possible.
