What's a cat's life like after entropion surgery? Will she go blind?

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am not exactly sure what you mean. The eyelashes are not cut or removed for entropion surgery. The surgery entails taking a piece of skin from above or below the eye (depending where the issue is) and then the skin that is left is sewn back together to pull the eyelids into a more open position. The eyelashes are not touched. If you are referencing the hair that was shaved for surgery around the eyes, then yes, that hair will grow back. Can you post a photo of what you are talking about? If Teddi's surgery was just yesterday, he will still have some swelling in the eyelid from the surgery, which will make the eyelid look droopier (swelling will push the lower eyelid away from the eye). It should improve as the swelling goes down. Keep giving him the medication prescribed by your vet, and schedule a recheck for a week out from surgery to make sure he's healing appropriately. My suspicion is this will look significantly better in a week! Hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about Ellie but glad the itching has stopped! The skin around her eye looks a little red and I assume this is what you are speaking of. If her stitches were just removed in the past few days it is possible there was just some residual irritation from the sutures. We can also see inflammation around the eyes like this due to allergies. I would let your vet know about her eyelid and see if they feel a trial of an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine would be beneficial, or if they recommend a topical eye ointment on the lid to try to decrease irritation.

It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. Your vet will need to take a look at your cat's eye to see if the scratch perforated the cornea and involved other structures of the eye. Your vet should also see it to treat it because not treating it can lead to vision loss depending on the severity of the injury. The course of treatment will depend on the severity of the injury and the part of the eye that was injured. If the wound is non-perforating and has no wound edge or opening, an Elizabethan collar will be used to prevent your cat from scratching at its eye, along with antibiotic or atropine eye solutions. Non-perforating wounds that have a mild break in the tissue, or a pinpoint wound perforation, may be treated with a soft contact lens, an Elizabethan collar, and antibiotic or atropine solutions. If the scratch goes deep into the eye and involves other structures in the eye, surgical repair will likely be needed. Your vet is the best person to determine what course of treatment is best.
