Why does my cat eat corn husks? Is it dangerous for their health?

Corn plants contain saponins which are toxic to cats. Signs of toxicity include vomiting ( occasionally with blood), anorexia, depression, hypersalivation, & dilated pupils. If your cat shows any signs of these in the next several hours, than please call your vet immediately. In the meantime, please remove this plant from your home. Make sure that he doesn't get to eat the silk part of the corn as it can cause blockage of his intestines. As long as most of his diet consists of a well-balanced cat food, a small amount of corn every now and then is OK and will not harm him. I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am assuming by corn flakes you mean a human breakfast cereal. It is ok if Felix eats some, it won't hurt him and it's not toxic. It just shouldn't be his main source of nutrition, he should be eating 95% of a balance cat food either canned or dry. But like I said as a treat or by accident if he eats a corn flake it shouldn't hurt him. Hope this helps!

The chia pet plant is not toxic to cats so if Cid were to ingest / chew on the plant, he should be fine. It would probably be best to not allow Cid to chew / eat the plant to prevent any GI upset. Some cats chew on it because they like the taste and texture in their mouth. This can be a concern because if the cat eats it, it can cause a foreign body. When I was in college, I had a cat eat the plastic streamers from a pom pom, and she had to have emergency surgery. I would keep Sasha from doing this. I hope this helps!

I guess he just feels like it. This isn't a common problem among cats. In small amounts it is perfectly safe, but in larger amounts it could cause irritation to the GI tract or even an impaction. You might need to try another substrate for the litter box, such as shredded paper, packing peanuts, sand, a product called yesterday's news, etc.

Unfortunately some cats love to eat strings and bite these types of objects. Hopefully since Peanut is so young he will grow out of it, but that may not always be the case. The concern with this if he swallows something and it gets stuck somewhere in his intestines. A string like object can be very difficult to find on X-rays and he could need surgery to find it. The only way to truly stop him from eating them is to make sure everything is put away. I would make sure you put time aside to play with him and get his energy out. Also make sure there are places he can climb up on and hide in. Hopefully with getting his energy out he doesn't have the energy to eat the string like objects.
