My cat's ear infection is back. What if I can't afford treatment?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old | 11 lbs

Hi, I took my cat to vet a few weeks ago and she was diagnosed with a bacteria and yeast ear infection. I could not afford the medicine he prescribed (Posatex) but the steriod shot she received seemed to fix her ear. Now the infection is back, what can I do for her?

I am sorry to hear about Chy. Unfortunately, I suspect the steroid injection didn't actually fix her ear but just decreased the pain and inflammation temporarily, making it appear she was cured because her discomfort was temporarily relieved. If her infection was not treated with medication to kill the bacteria and yeast, it most likely is still present and will not go away with out the prescribed treatment from your vet. You could ask if they have another option for ear medication that is more affordable, or discuss any payment options they may have.
