Why is my cat drooling and acting sick, even after a vet visit?

Oh my. These are very concerning symptoms I'm afraid. I would highly recommend taking Leo to your local vet right away. I am worried that Leo may have a toxin ingestion, foreign body obstruction, or even kidney disease is a possible cause here. Until you can get him seen you can try offering some canned tuna and white rice to see if you can entice him to eat a bit of food. I hope that your furry friend Leo feels better soon! I would be concerned about Zapatitos being nauseas, having infection or trauma inside the mouth or even a toxin if possible exposure. I would recommend taking her to a vet to have a good detailed exam to help narrow down why Zapatitos is hyper salivating. It is important to look under her tongue and make sure string is not attached causing a foreign body. Also you can look in her mouth to make sure you do not see any type of sores. Sometimes cats will chew electrical wires and get burns in the mouth or even have viruses that cause ulcers. All of these things can cause hyper salivation. I think a vet visit is best to help Zapatitos feel better as soon as possible.

I will typically treat with anti-nausea medication to see if it helps. If not, make sure that he is not eating anything that he shouldn't (plants, etc). Typically excess salivation is either caused by nausea or pain (oral or abdominal), although this is not an all inclusive list. There can still be oral disease present, especially if these missing teeth were not removed but fell out. Cats can get resorptive lesions of their teeth which can be really painful and the changes can be hard for owners to detect. They can also get lesions in their mouth (stomatitis, a mass, ulcers, etc.) that an owner may not see. Additionally diseases of other body systems may cause drooling (kidneys, gi, etc ). I would recommend your kitty seeing a vet for a thourough oral exam and blood work to start. A good oral exam will likely require sedation and perhaps dental xrays. I'm sorry Louie is sick! The drooling could be due to nausea or pain, and when cats are sick, they typically become lethargic. Unfortunately his symptoms are quite general and could be caused by a number of different things such as a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or an injury. The only way to know for sure what is causing them is to have him seen by a vet, and I'd recommend taking him in first thing in the morning so he can be examined, diagnosed, and treated. He could have an upper respiratory infection, dental problem, or other medical issue. It is impossible to know the cause without doing an examination. If he has an upper respiratory infection, it could be contagious to the other outside cats. Make sure you wash your hands and change clothing after handling him before touching your indoor cats. If possible, catch him and take him to a vet for an examine and treatment.

I suggest taking your cat to your veterinarian or a 24-hour emergency clinic as soon as possible. Excessive drooling in a cat can be a sign of a number of problems including (but not limited to) nausea, dental disease. Ingestion of a toxin, foreign object caught in the mouth, salivary gland disease, ulcers in the mouth, cancer of the mouth, neurological disorders, or eating something that tastes very bad. Excessive drooling is also a symptom of rabies. Many cats will chatter their teeth while watching birds or other prey animals; however, chattering could alos be an indication of pain or neurological in nature.
