Hello. I am wondering if your cat has been given any medications or received any type of anti inflammatory injection on the day if the sedation and X-ray? If so, was it a “steroid” type of drug. These types of drugs commonly cause a period of increased thirst, increased urination. Other than medication-related, there wound not be any direct correlation. Thank you

While it is true that Convenia is labeled for the use of skin infections, it is also used off label for other diseases in pets, such as upper respiratory infections, UTIs, or bacterial infections. I would caution about what you read online about it, as many of things you read may be sensationalized, exaggerated, or simply untrue. Drug use in animals is closely regulated, and if there was a concern with a particular drug killing animals, then it would not be used. Any drug has it's side effect, and any drug can cause an allergic reaction in an animal potentially leading to death, but it's a good drug to use when you want an animal to have antibiotics in their system for up to 14 days without having to worry about getting an animal to ingest pills. If you do have concerns as to why your vet chose to use this drug on Frida Katio, I suggest you speak to them, and they can explain why they made this choice. Unfortunately, without seeing her in person, I can't say if this was a good choice or not, so speaking with your vet is the best option for you.

It is concerning that he is drinking and urinating excessively. Since he is so young, I am concerned he has a congential kidney disorder causing kidney failure. He should have an ultrasound of his kidneys to look for abnormalities. Call your vet and give him/her an update to let your vet know he is drinking and urinating excessively.

Hello, this medication is actually very safe when used topically and does not have many reported side effects in pets. It may cause allergic reactions, but these area also rare and more common when used in combination with other medications. The signs you are describing however may be more consistent with dehydration or kidney disease. I would recommend continuing his ear medications, however, he may need some bloodwork to check his kidney values and hydration status. Hello there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. Convenia (Cefovecin) is a very safe antibiotic to use. I have only ever seen an adverse reaction in one patient of mine out of hundreds I have administered this drug to. The antibiotic may have made him nauseous at first and he may be completely fine now, which is likely what happened. A reaction can be delayed (known as a type 4 hypersensitivity) and this can take several days before you notice any symptoms of a reaction. I would just monitor for now and if in the next few days you notice he is not himself, I would have the veterinarian recheck him to ensure he is ok. I hope this helps! What you are describing (hard feces despite drinking and peeing, and drinking a lot of water) can definitely be caused by kidney disease, and that would be the number one concern. Other concerns would be diabetes, hyperthyroidism, megacolon, or possibly cancer. In terms of your medications comment, all medications have different times for how long they take to kick in, and how long they last. This can be changed based on hydration, age, kidney and liver function, and overall health status. It sounds like Jay might need to see a vet, based on your questions. Best of luck with Jay!
