Why is my cat peeing more after X-rays and sedation? Is it serious?

Blood work was not performed prior to the sedation and if there is a pre-existing condition, the anesthesia may have made the condition worse and more pronounced. I would also consider a fructosamine test to check and see if the level is consistent with diabetes. I would say that the ultrasound is the next appropriate diagnostic test to have performed with what is going on. I hope this helps better determine what the cause could be. I would be worried that your cat is actually starting to experience the signs of a urinary blockage, and needs to have a urinary catheter placed in order to allow him to urinate normally until the inflammation and swelling associated with the urethra goes down. Please return to the vet where you took him; urinary blockage is life-threatening and medications alone frequently do not correct the problem.

I'm not sure why this is happening, this is not a side effect usually seen with one of these medications so this could be due to a urinary condition. i would recommend to take him to the vet to get it checked, if it is a urinary infection the convenia should take care of it though.

Your vet may have given your kitty medication to decrease pain or inflammation in the bladder. If he does not have an infection, he may suffer from cystitis or inflammation of the bladder which can sometimes be related to stress. Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. Stress related (idiopathic type of inflammation) infection and presence of crystals are the most common causes of it. I think an ultrasound is needed as more sensitive than the x rays to diagnose more sinister causes like tumors and certain type of urinary stones that may be not detectable with the x rays. I'm so sorry to hear that Sadie is not doing well. Cats very rarely develop the side effects of increases in thirst and urination that dogs and people do while they are taking Prednisone, so I would be suspicious of another problem going on. I would recommend having your veterinarian check urine and blood samples on Sadie to evaluate for another problem before considering stopping Prednisone. Definitely pursue those x-rays. That is a good idea. I also recommend that you have his blood and urine tested for abnormalities. Drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating excessively can indicate kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, liver disease or diabetes. Blood tests and the urine testing should give you some answers. Try to get these tests done ASAP. At home you can start him on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement, as well as a joint supplement for cats.
