My cat drank coffee. Is it dangerous? What do I do next?

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Sophie. I would recommend watching her closely tonight for signs of toxicity from the coffee. Hopefully she just ingested a small amount and will have no ill effects, but you want to watch for vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity/excitability, racing heart, tremors/muscle twitching, and seizures. If any of these occur, then take Sophie in to the vet (vomiting and diarrhea if just occurring a few times may not require emergency care, but repeated vomiting or the other symptoms listed would warrant an emergency trip visit).

Oh no, that's not good! Symptoms can occur with the consumption of 9 mg/pound of caffeine. I don't know how much Cassidy ingested, but you may see signs. I'd take him into the emergency vet now to be safe. Best of luck.

Hello, if you're unsure about the ingestion of the coffee beans, if would be safest to have your veterinarian induce vomiting and monitor bb for any side effects from the chocolate or caffeine. This is most successful when induced within an hour of ingestion. Monitor for any lethargy, pacing, anxiety, rapid heart rate, weakness or collapse and have bb evaluated immediately if you note any of these. Hope this helps and best of luck.

What a cute kitten! I few small licks of Diet Pepsi are unlikely to harm your kitten but because the caffeine is not good for cats I would still monitor for overexcitement, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance or lethargy. If any of these signs occur I would take your kitten to see your veterinarian. I would also hide your soda from your kitten in the future. If he drank a more significant amount then I recommend contacting Pet Poison Helpline to better quantify and assess how much caffeine he actually consumed. From your description it sounds like a pretty small amount - but if you perceive it was more than a couple licks, it’s worth getting guidance from the toxicology experts. There is a $65 fee to start a consultation with Pet Poison, but that’s far less than you’d spend rushing him in to an emergency vet, and they very likely may advise you that his caffeine exposure was small enough not to be of concern. Since the cold brew is liquid, it may be too late to get out of his system even if you induced vomiting, so the question at this point is likely whether you should watch for development of symptoms or whether the exposure is high enough to warrant preemptive hospitalization. I do not suspect Niko’s exposure was that high, but we’d need more info on exactly how much he consumed. Dogs and cats appear to be more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than people. Depending on the amount ingested, signs of hyperactivity, restlessness, vomiting, elevated heart rate, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, and elevated body temperature may be seen. In severe cases, seizures, collapse and death are possible. I would recommend to have her immediately checked by your local veterinarian.

Clinical signs of marijuana toxicosis in cats include drooling, increased locomotor activity (e.g. wandering aimlessly, spontaneous jumping behavior), sedation, depression, anxiety, head bobbing/weaving, swaying from side to side, disorientation, vocalization, agitation, aggression, drinking excessively, difficulty swallowing, sneezing, not eating, seizures, diarrhea, and vomiting. Please monitor her carefully for the next 12-24 hours. If you notice any severe symptoms you will need to take her to your veterinarian.
