My cat has scabs from a dog bite. What signs of infection to watch for?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

Male cat, been fixed, he has 3 scabs on his neck, which we believe is from my sisters dog biting him while trying to play. What should I watch for?

Great question! I would monitor the area for redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. Those are signs of infection, and if you see any of those signs, I would take Elliott into the vet for antibiotics, I would also monitor him for signs of neck pain, such as meowing when he moves or jumps, or a reluctance to move his head. Should you see those signs, I would take him into the vet for an exam and pain medications. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given.
