My two cats are fighting. How can I get them to get along?

I would encourage you to introduce them slowly and supervise them at all times at least for the first week to make sure they are getting along. I recommend you consider using a product called Feliway which may help tremendously in calming them in stressful situations like this could be. You may find that online or at your local pet store. I would start them out by introducing them both separately behind a closed door and having them eat on each side of the door. Do this several times. This way, they can associate the smells of each other with something great- meal time! After that has been done, I would introduce them in a enclosed safe area where they can be watched and monitored. Associate the introduction with a meal or play time. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I would be sure that the new and old cat are up to date on vaccines and deworming before coming in to contact. Then I would take the older cat and place her in a separate room or bathroom with a liter box and food and water for 7-14 days. Basically until she seems acclimated. I would purchase a Feliway diffuser, one for the room she is in and one in a location that the new cat can smell it. They can get used to each other by sniffing and hearing each other under the door. After the 7-14 days put the older cat in a cat carrier or use a baby gate at the door so they can see each other and hiss/growl if needed safely. Again for 7-14 days. Then let her out when you are home to supervise. Once that goes well they can be left together alone. You may be surprised out quickly she gets comfortable. Now if they truly did not get along well and the other kitty was trying to harm your older kitty, it is probably best to keep them separate. It is not uncommon for them to miss each other for a bit though this will improve very soon. I think you have made the right choice. Good luck!

I recommend you consider hiring a qualified dog trainer to work with you in person. I think with the appropriate training they may learn to get along great so that you do not have to fear this any longer. Otherwise, they may be fine but it is a bit of an uncertainty if it will happen again. Good luck and have a good day!

I'm sorry for you loss of your other kitties! It may take some time for Tori Lee and your other cat to get along. I would give it more time. In the meantime I suggest getting a Feliway diffuser to help reduce stress in the household. It's also helpful to have plenty of cat towers to allow the cats to see each other but not directly interact. There should be at least two food and water bowls in separate locations. You also want to make sure you have a separate litter box for each cat and one additional litter box (so in your case, 3 boxes) placed in different locations. These steps can facilitate a happier household with cats who are more likely to get along. Finally, if they don't warm up to each other in a few more weeks, that may just be how it's going to be. Just like people, cats have preferences for who they do and do not like. As long as they are not fighting or injuring each other this is not an issue. I hope this helps! Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Congratulations on your new kitty! In these situations it is best to do introductions very slowly. Some suggestions I have for you are as follows: 1) Use a Feliway diffuser to reduce overall tension in household 2) Go back to the beginning and over the first week introduce by smell only (introducing cats to each others bedding or something that has their scent on it) 3) Then introduce by sight only but no direct interaction. Do this for a week 4) Finally introduce cats together but only with direct supervision and with plenty of escape routes for both cats. Only leave them together for a very short time at first 5) Have plenty of tall cat towers and other things for the cats so they can observe each other from a distance 6) Have at least 3 litter boxes in different locations and definitely continue to feed separately and have separate water bowls.
