My new cat has diarrhea and won't eat after medication. What to do?

Diarrhea and inappentence can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I think that it is possible that her diarrhea could also be due to stress from the recent move or even a recent change in diet. I recommend that you have Bobbie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

You can try to entice his appetite with things like tuna, tuna water and chicken. If his appetite does not improve by tomorrow, let your veterinarian know as anorexia can be detrimental to a cat's health. Good luck and have a great day!

Based on your description, I am quite concerned she may be dehydrated and may have some systemic disease or infection going on. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cinders! How old is Cinders? I would call your Vet or have him rechecked and discuss starting him on metronidazole. If he is a kitten be sure he has been feline leukemia and FIV tested. Sometimes if it is viral or parasitic in nature it just take a but to get things under control. It does sound like you need a new approach since he isn't improving. Some Vets if they have seen the patient recently are ok with having you just come pick up medication. I would recommend having her re-examined and do further diagnostics like X-rays and blood work to determine why. If she is still eating and drinking and energetic, you could wait until Tuesday. I am sorry Damian does not feel well. I would recommend recontacting the vet to let them know Damian feels worse. Typically metronidazole works with in 24-48 hours. Typically if he is having liquid diarrhea he is not constipated. I would make sure a fecal is negative for parasites like coccidia. He might need deworming for coccidia since he is you. I would feed him the new food and you can start with a small amount of pedialyte however if he is still not improving I recommend taking him back to a veterinarian for more testing like bloodwork.
