Why does my cat have diarrhea and bloody stool after vaccine?

This can commonly occur after intestinal parasites or stress from vaccinations. Your cat most likely need some antibiotics and possibly a probiotic to help get the gut health back to where it needs to be. Once this occurs the diarrhea should resolve. I hope this helps. I'm sorry to hear that Casper has had so much diarrhea lately! Yes, it is certainly possible that the stress of his visitor coupled with his ingestion of the other cat's food and treats could have caused some gastroenteritis (inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract), which led to diarrhea. A bit of blood can occur in the stool as a result of irritation to the colon. If Casper is still eating, drinking and acting relatively normally, you can try a home remedy. Start by withholding food for 24 hours, then offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food with the boiled chicken over another 5-7 days. If at any point Casper becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, has profuse bloody diarrhea, or stops eating, he will need to take a trip to the vet for further evaluation. If she has an infectious disease the vaccine will not prevent it from getting worse. Bloody stool could be from a virus, a bacterial infection, a GI foreign body, or parasites. Even if you have dewormed her, not all dewormers get every parasite. If the bloody stool continues I would recommend borrowing money to have her seen by a vet. Good luck and kisses to Miss Kitty!

The blood you are seeing in the stools may be stress colitis. I suggest you do the following: 1. Deworming treatments as well as vaccines can cause diarrhea as a side effect. I wouldn't be concerned about Rae just yet, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. As long as Savannah is playing, eating, and does not have a fever, your veterinarian will probably be comfortable giving her vaccines tomorrow. If they have any concern about her not being up for the vaccines they will certainly let you know. Try to bring a fresh fecal sample with you to the appointment so she can be tested for fecal parasites. Fecal parasites are very common and the leading cause of diarrhea in very young puppies and kittens. I hope she's feeling better (and not leaving skid marks!) soon.

Unfortunately there is no picture attached to your post, so I can't see what his poop looks like. Cats can easily get stressed, and that can lead to colitis. Colitis is inflammation of the colon, and that can cause blood in the stool. I'd keep an eye on him and his poop for now. If it continues to be bloody, give his vet a call. As for what happened with the vet, I suspect they may have used a cotton swab to get a sample of poop from his anus. I hope this helps!
