My cat has bloody diarrhea and vomiting after moving. Should I worry?

I am very sorry this must be upsetting for you all. It is very possibly stress related. The veterinarian should be able to prescribe a medication to reduce stress during the moving process as well as a probiotic to help restore normal gut function. Your sister in law should be able to call and ask for a prescription for these medications as she has already had Louie seen by the veterinarian for this issue. I'm sorry to hear that Casper has had so much diarrhea lately! Yes, it is certainly possible that the stress of his visitor coupled with his ingestion of the other cat's food and treats could have caused some gastroenteritis (inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract), which led to diarrhea. A bit of blood can occur in the stool as a result of irritation to the colon. If Casper is still eating, drinking and acting relatively normally, you can try a home remedy. Start by withholding food for 24 hours, then offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food with the boiled chicken over another 5-7 days. If at any point Casper becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, has profuse bloody diarrhea, or stops eating, he will need to take a trip to the vet for further evaluation. This is not uncommon, most cats should adapt to both the new enviroment and food within 3-5days. I would recommend adding a probiotic such as fortiflora and consider a natural calming aid such as zylkene to help with the transition. Be aure to keep kittnes regularly dewormed also

I suspect food allergy or IBD. I recommend you try the following: 1. Change the diet to Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. I have had a lot of luck with clients using this diet and it has really helped. Change the diet slowly over a week's time to prevent further GI upset. Poor Sergio. If he is eating a different diet than he was before, that could be causing the stomach upset and diarrhea. It could also be that he is sick. Because he is vomiting, having diarrhea, and there appears to be blood in it, he's too sick for a home remedy. I'd take him into a vet immediately to get this treated. Best of luck.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I suggest you have him dewormed and I would also start him on a probiotic (Fortiflora). If you do those two things and the diarrhea doesn't start to resolve in a few days then you need to take him to a vet for an exam. If you use that again in the future and the diarrhea starts again then you can probably confidently say that it is the issue in which case I would stop using it. Usually if that is the case the diarrhea starts within 24 hours of administration. Two weeks later, it is not likely. The new food is also possibly the culprit but again, you didn't switch cold turkey and it doesn't sound like he is eating that much of it anyway. Again, possible but not likely. Hope this helps. Diarrhea and inappentence can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I think that it is possible that her diarrhea could also be due to stress from the recent move or even a recent change in diet. I recommend that you have Bobbie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
