My cat has diarrhea 4 days after deworming. Should I be worried?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 19 days old | 4 lbs

Hi, my cat has diarrhea after deworming for 4 days. He was fine before I adopt a new kitten (about 4-5weeks old).So I am not sure is the kitten has the virus or the deworm tablet problem. He is about 5 months old. I am bit worried about him. Is that normal to have diarrhea after deworming? Thank you

diarrhea after deworming can be normal, but usually for no more than a couple days. this is probably due to something else, either a virus, bacteria or something in the food he isn't copping with. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

Poor Monster. Don't give him milk. Cats are lactose intolerant, and the milk is likely making things worse. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Your cat is probably suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the situation does not improve, take him to the vet to get treatment.

offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 4-6 hours in small portions. she will need an antibiotic course in order to solve this problem and this is something that you will need to get from your vet.

My kitten has diarrhea and red anus after deworming. Should I worry?

Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There are many causes to diarrhea with a red perhaps inflamed anus. Parasites could be the cause or a bacterial or viral infection. I would take your kitten to your veterinarian soon for a fecal test where they will test his stool for parasites and bacteria and/or certain viruses that could be causing the diarrhea. They may Rx a medication to your kitten depending on what the veterinarian discovers on the fecal test. Best of luck! I hope this has helped.

Some cats can experience some diarrhea after a worming treatment. However, from what you are describing it sounds like Precious is having a particularly bad reaction to her worming treatment. I would advise contacting the veterinarian who prescribed it, and discussing the issue. They may want to see Precious in for fluid therapy or for monitoring. My cat has diarrhea after starting virus medication, is it normal?

Some gastrointestinal conditions can take longer than 3 days to resolve so as long as Kiko is otherwise feeling ok i would advise to finish the course of treatment, if by then the diarrhea persists, take him back to the vet.

I don't think the diarrhea has anything to do with the upper respiratory infection. I would recommend that you call the vet. They may want to test for intestinal parasites or may be concerned about a different bacteria or virus causing the diarrhea. I wouldn't change any food right now, since a sudden change may make the diarrhea worse. If he develops vomiting, decreased appetite, or lethargy, I would definitely have him checked out by the vet.

You could certainly monitor Salem for a day or so to see if the diarrhea continues. If the diarrhea lasts more than 2 days, if it is very watery or frequent, if you see blood, or if Salem vomits I would recommend seeing your veterinarian.
