My cat's cyst is draining through her eye. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 15 years and 11 months old | 5 lbs

My cat has had cysts before. Vet has drained. Now she has one on forehead Of course after hours. He said try warm compress. I did but now seems to be draining thru eye. E R visit warrented?

Poor Maggie! It definitely looks like her eye is affected somehow - it's hard to say exactly what's going on without being able to shine an ophthalmoscope into the eye and examine it more closely, but something is definitely wrong. If the cyst is draining through her eye socket, I would be concerned that there may be some damage to the eye itself - so yes, an ER visit tonight would be best if this is possible. Eyes are very delicate structures, so it's best to have this treated promptly to minimize the risk of permanent damage or vision loss. I hope that Maggie feels better soon!

    The best course of action to treat Chloe is probably to have that cyst surgically removed. If you are unable to do this then I would recommend having the vet drain it. If you drain it at home it has the potential to become infected which could lead to serious complications. I would also be concerned with you doing it at home because it is located so close to the eye. Your vet will also be able to look at it more closely and determine if it is something that is benign or malignant.

Oh my. This appears to possibly be an injury to the eye and subsequent infection. It is hard to tell the degree of injury based on the photos, a vet exam is definitely needed her. I would highly recommend taking Mow to your local vet right away to get this eye tested, fully examined and treated. Best case scenario is that there isn't permanent damage done to this eye and antibiotics/pain medication /- drainage of a potential abscess are needed to get Mow better.
